Painful to watch this team play. We are not fast enough and our passing is awful. We rarely go north/south, way too much east/west trying to break out of our end.  It seems like their only “breakout” is to flip the puck out of the zone which means we are back to chasing the play.
It may be that the poor passing makes us seem slower than we are but I think we need an upgrade in team speed.
How many unforced errors did we have tonight? It appeared to be a constant flow of passes right to Western at times.
I thought TJ played pretty well but he never gives me much confidence as he is flopping around a lot. He can make some nice saves but his style just makes me cringe.
A lot of questions need answers at the end of this season but I believe it is time for a coaching change. Start fresh with a completely new staff.

I said it before, Western plays like UND teams used to play — aggressive forecheck, and good transitions.
UND used to get penalties from that aggressive mindset, and now they get penalties by being too defensive, and always chasing the opponent.

While I love the mindset of blocking shots, one has to wonder why we are blocking so many shots.  Denver doesn’t block many shots because they are in the offensive end most of the time.
When you are blocking all those shots you will inevitably end up with more nagging injuries.

Let’s not forget Western has 10 rookies and a bunch of portal players, so for us to barely squeak out a win in the season series is concerning.  You can tell Ferschweiler’s competitiveness is instilled in his players, as he didn’t want to lose that game, whereas Berry’s teams have had hangovers after winning the Penrose.

I’m very glad we won, but the fact that we had home ice on the line and they just had momentum on their side, yet we could barely muster shots on net, is an indictment on the aggressiveness on their part, and lack thereof on ours.

Anybody else notice Puggsley Adams hanging out by the Sioux Penalty Box?  Wondering if he would say the same things and offer the same finger gestures if he was standing out in the concourse and our guys walked by.

I think we can stop following that, unless someone knows something I don't

Irrelevant at this point...need to win conference tourney to get in.

Thought UND was gonna get hosed at the end; figured a perfect ending for this game was Jake's goal gets wiped out and Western gets a penalty shot which of course they would convert.  BUT, they found a way to win.  Did Sioux play a full 60?  Not sure, as it was difficult to sustain much offensive pressure and seemed like the boys were constantly scrambling in our own zone.  Four SOG in the first period is not awesome, yet they were only down one at intermission.

One thing I noticed tonight toward the end of the game is that UND had guys in there on power plays and key moments that absolutely are no threat to score.  Goddammit, shorten the bench and get #9 on the ice as much as possible.  Double and triple shift this guy; he can handle it.  And what happened to our Freshman Super Line?  Those guys hunt pucks hard.

Minnesota scored to go up 3-1 on Penn State, but Penn State challenged a high hit earlier in the play, and Minnesota had the goal taken away and put PSU on a 5 minute power play in which they promptly scored to tie it at 2.  Might as well challenge anything close to a high hit if a goal comes off the board on the other end of the ice.  Way too much discretion that is going on after the fact.

That was an absolute perfect celly after that goal

A Bronco fan got in the face of a couple of younger UND guys and knocked the UND fan’s beer out of his hands. Unfortunately, the beer spilled over another Bronco fan who was not pleased with his fellow Western fan! And why was Bronco fan number one so pissed? -Because the UND guy yelled, “Hey Broncos fans, #4 ain’t your b*tch after all!” (The lunatics had been riding Livanavage pretty hard all weekend). Apparently, visiting fans aren’t allowed to celebrate at Lawson. :)

Any player wearing #4 is the target of the lunatics...I don't know why, but it's a thing with them, I guess

Dates back to #44 Torey Krug from MSU I think.

It's because that's as high as most of them can count.

During overtime, WMU play by play guy said Boisvert actually closed his hand on the puck and threw it out of the blue paint but it didn’t appear to have happened that way when watching a replay of it.

I can't help but think we let one get away from us last night. Good back and forth series, felt good celebrating with the Penrose against you all since it seems like you always clinch playing us.

Maybe we'll see each other again in the semis.
