I feel like the staff crushed it during the winter portal, so I’m very excited to see if they can bring in some FBS DL, LBs, and Edge. Need those positions to be very disruptive players. A couple monsters on the interior DL would be like Christmas in April. Maybe Schmidt will reach out to Deboer and ask him if he’s got some guys that are buried on the depth chart?! It will be a very important time in building the 2025 roster. There are a few position groups that are currently weak but could be bolstered quickly, putting us in position for that 2025 MVFC title. Everyone do their part and get behind this movement; even a small amount can overall go a long way: https://1883collective.com 5 Quote
forksandspoons Posted April 11 Author Posted April 11 What is on everyone’s spring portal wish list? Mine: - 2 big DL with D1 experience - 1-2 LBs with D1 experience - 1 TE with D1 experience Quote

If this coaching staff nails this again (winning the portal), in today's FCS, they will absolutely be competitive next year. I'm not talking winning a title, but no reason they couldn't be in that 2nd / 3rd tier. Competitive playoff team. Quote

A couple nice recruits coming in too. 3 Quote

Depends on if they think the #3 and to some extent #4 are legitimate starting caliber. If they do, then scratch RB from my list. Quote
forksandspoons Posted April 11 Author Posted April 11 No idea if the interest is mutual, but a lot of the coaching staff follows this kid from Tight End U. Exactly the type of transfer portal target I am hoping to see! Quote

As for RB, UND has a couple good players at that position currently and some promising young guys, but also no question there are some really good portal guys out there also worth offering. One injury and the RB room can look different pretty quickly … 1 Quote

I’m for game-changers at all positions. If they’re good and want to be at UND, then get them to campus, as the rest will sort its self out. 1 Quote

Popular Post forksandspoons Posted April 14 Author Popular Post Posted April 14 Should be a fun week or two! It appears the coaching staff is following a lot of recent D1 transfer portal players. Hope they can find some big time, immediate impact guys on the defensive side! 5 Quote
AJS Posted April 16 Posted April 16 If you're the GM, what's the ideal # of players UND would have enter the Spring portal? Clearly, cannot lose any starters or ideally, anyone on the two-deep. Are we thinking the lower the better? 5 to 7 range seems ideal to me. That mixed with some of the guys that left the program prior to spring ball (ex: Teiken), gives you 10 spots to add. Looking what's happening to USD, seems like an incredibly pivotal time. Quote

There was a lot of hype around him but keep in mind this isn’t the staff he committed to. He gave it a shot and maybe it wasn’t what he was looking for. Or the staff said he’s not what they’re looking for. 1 Quote
shep Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I think Tom then noted that they took their names out of the portal in what looks like a typo/error situation Quote

I've said this before......In the past 8-10 years or so, to me guys who ended up being our best players were not the ones we were all exited about. And a few examples of guys we were all excited about never panned out to be what we thought. Someone like Sammy Fort, many were really excited about him. Q had some hype coming in, ended up great for our program but never a starting QB. There was that kid that had a PWO from Oregon I think, lasted one year I believe. There is a whole long list of guys like that. Then you've got guys like Wanzek, Santiago, Olivier, Belquist......nobody said Boo about them when they were recruited. So honestly right now, I don't get too worked about any guy we get who is highly thought of. Not saying I don't like to see us get guys like that, I just don't get as excited about it like I use to. Need to see it translate on the field. Maybe this will be more of a thing under Schmidt. The hype over Deng was pretty high, that is one I'm hoping really pans out. 2 Quote
