Would he be allowed to be a volunteer coach in some capacity, like at practice & press box?

No, when they allowed the extra paid coach, the volunteer was no longer possible, hence Jason Ulmer not getting to remain to help with faceoffs.

Hak is in the background. Back living in Grand Forks and even at the games this weekend. Maybe he wants his old job back…..

Hakstol's teams were generally not that great before Christmas, but built from there, but just couldn't finish it off.  I remember when people mocked the gophers for being a great October, November team, and now our season is over because they didn't produce offensively on the weekend?   I think this team has more room for growth than last year's, simply because they have more really young freshmen that hopefully can make a big impact the second half of the year -- Boisvert, Swanson, and Emery.

Expect an even more spirited purple cow performance tonight.

If UND isn’t ready it’ll get run out of the barn.

Satisfied or hungry.

 We shall see.

Mankato may end up being a much better team than predicted. And I am not going to overreact to a game in October (it is a long season).

That being said, this is the type of inconsistency that dooms you in the playoffs.

They have plenty of time to fix this.

But the sooner the better.

Couldn't watch, but reading the game story everyone quoted says they played well but didn't break the seal. Begrudgingly confirmed, or vehemently denied?

They did not play well. 5v5 play was really bad. As bad as I can ever remember. Next to no ES scoring opportunities in either game.

I didn't see any of the game, but it seems like the group was fine with the effort, just "didn't get one to go".

From what I've been told we were fine in the net and our young d unit played okay.

We need guys like Kunz to show up and get on the scoresheet.  Given a top 6 role and has been a ghost.

None of the F’s showed up. It was worse than most are making it out to be.

This is what's confusing, almost all members in this thread thought it was a sh!tshow; but listening to Berry, Hennessy & the players they thought they played a very good game. Either Berry & his players are describing the game accurately, or the members here are.

"I thought we played close to a 60-minute game," UND coach Brad Berry said. "I thought we came out hard, dictated play for most of the first period and I thought it carried over. The problem was we didn't get our first goal. I thought if we could have gotten that first goal to give us a little momentum, we'd be on our way. But it was a lot different than (Friday) night as far as how we played. I think if you play that way for a 60-minute game, normally, we'll get the result. Tonight, we didn't."

"Honestly, I thought we played a better game than we did (Friday) night," alternate captain Jake Schmaltz said. "We couldn't get that first one to fall, which ultimately we needed to get some momentum. It wasn't going our way tonight. It's frustrating. It sucks to lose. It's our first loss of the regular season, but I think if we keep playing like that, we're going to get a lot of good bounces down the road."

The first step in solving any problem is recognizing that there is one.

That's what's most concerning about the comments above.

Berry & his players were honest about how poorly they played in the Augustana game; but you're saying they're in denial or bs-ing about Saturday's game at Mankato? Because I didn't watch either game, I have to rely on the feedback I get from the team & the members here.

I was at the game. I’m sorry but I am going to agree with Coach Berry and the players on this. I thought they played way better on Saturday than on Friday.

I think they are just saying what they’re supposed to say. No point in panicking this early; there’s a long road ahead. As bad as it’s looked this year, it’s really early and we’re 2-1. Michigan lost to Kato at home, gophs dropped one to Omaha. Here’s to hoping we steadily improve each weekend until March/April.

None of the guys looked good to be honest. Only up from here.

I’m sorry, but next to no offense at ES for two straight games is not good. I’m going to stay positive (see last post) but to say we played better Saturday is really stretching…like really stretching.

Who knows how good or bad this team is ?  For the last few months I’ve been reading “let’s not worry about the Penrose, we can lose a couple games early in the season”. Lighten up a littler (did you see that) and see  what happens! I’d love to see us go undefeated but that’s not happening. All any of us really care about is finishing in  the top 10 or 12 in the pairwise, right ?

Whether or not they really care about the Penrose (hmm...)they have a long way to go to be a team that can make an impact in the NCAA's.  Would love to see it!

I think what scpa said is the thing that's most concerning. It's early, but not a good weekend 5 on 5.

I agree. Clearly “less bad” is a better description than better.

I don't know if y'all know this; UND hasn't swept Minnesota State in Mankato since 2010.

From the UND game notesFollowing the win on Friday, NoDak is aiming for its first sweep over the Mavericks in Mankato since Dec. 2010 when both teams were members of the WCHA.

Considering March 2013 and October 2019 were the only 2 series in Mankato since 2010, I am not sure this stat conveys much.
