2024-25 ND High School Hockey

Admittedly don't watch a lot of ND HS hockey until EDC and state but if either GF school played Moorhead (have watched them a few times) would they even keep it respectable? My limited hockey mind says no.

Another tangent....as of last night it is official that Shanley boys hockey will dissolve the co-op with South and for the 25-26 season will begin a co-op with OG, PCS and Capstone. The girls will continue the co-op with Davies.

but here’s the deal combine both teams as Moorhead hs has bigger enrollment then gfrr and gfc does combined and gf would win

I thought there was already a co-op with Oak Grove and Park kids playing with Shanley?  I guess I didn't realize that Capstone had high school kids.

Thinking they will be calling the new Sports Center home in some capacity, also heard rumors of a rink at Shanley on the school grounds.

Current co-op does include OG and PCS. Shanley wants it's own identity and a clean break from South. I believe Capstone will have its first Fr. class starting in the fall of 2025.

Finally went through the new sports center off of 62nd Ave this week. Absolutely ridiculous how nice it is.

Moorhead, GF and Minot all basically have the same HS enrollment numbers so your point is valid. An all GF team could probably give MHS a run.

Look at bantams. All gf team and Moorhead had split season series

 

but Moorhead has kids from the cities and one from Texas on their aa team

 

gf is all home grown

I read the long post earlier in the thread about being passionate about people bashing ND hockey but let’s call a spade a spade. GF has built a hockey culture that rivals the top communities in MN. In other words GF has more in common to Edina in hockey than any other community/association compares to them in the state

Nope. Same groups of kids from termites. Even when they lose players to those programs people don’t like there’s enough in the pipeline to win 40 some state championships over the years.

So here is a question.  RR vs Central tonight.  How many Central kids should be RR and vice versa?  Or is it unknown with open enrollment?

Definitely more Central that should be going to RR and that numbers grows in the next couple of years.

I don't think there are very many kids who play hockey who actually reside in the traditional Central district. And just to clarify, it's not actually open enrollment in Grand Forks. Generally, anybody can go to Central. But if you live in the Central district, you generally can't go to Red River.

The idea used to be based ostensibly on evening out the overall enrollment numbers between the schools, but at this point I strongly suspect it also has a lot to do with the fact that hockey would be a major problem in Grand Forks if Red River district residing kids couldn't go to Central. As long as the kids/families more or less divide themselves up, I guess it more or less works out for hockey, but not for some other sports, particularly on the girls side.

There isn't a good way to do it and it's a lot more complicated than wishing it to be so. 

The real solution is to come up withh a plan for south end high school in the next 5-10 years.

Another high school? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with the idea, but do you think the voters will approve a tax increase to build and maintain it? The anti-tax crowd will howl in protest as usual.

And I never said redrawing boundaries is easy. But when you run for and win a seat on the school board, making tough decisions goes with the territory.

Maybe they could narrow it down to two plans and let the people decide?

There is no open enrollment. 
 

80 (or so) applications for in-district transfer from RRHS attendance boundary to GFC boundary were approved for this season. 
 

40 (or so) such applications from GFC to RRHS were approved.
