On another subject is Hobie injured ? He has better numbers then semper$&&& but doesn’t play, me he transfers out the comes back as a portal goalie he will play.

I'm hoping Hobie gets a game each weekend in the next three.
And then whoever has better numbers/performance in those 6 games gets the first start on Fri night against SCSU.

We need to start a pool on who the portal transfer goalie will be next year.

Next 6 games are winnable.  Have to get 5 wins minimum heading into SCSU series.

We realistically should go 7-8 before Xmas

Yep.  7-1 or at worst 6-2 should be the goal before Xmas break.
Then the boys have almost a month to get healthy and try to get a run going before ASU in Jan.

Suppose it depends on if Heil comes in 25/26 or 26/27.
Assuming Hobie doesn't bolt due to lack of playing time, if Heil comes in next year then our goalie trio would be set.
If he comes in 26/27 then there needs to be another goalie...either recruit (overager or WHL?) or portal.

If I can get my hands on some tickets to ASU, maybe I'll see you two weekends in a row.  ;)

Although still deciding on either WMU or CC series to come back to GF for...depends on what my son has going on in school.
I'll let you know as soon as we figure that out!

I find it highly unlikely Heil will be here next year. At least at this point. His current team does a rotation where Heil only plays on Saturdays. He needs more games than that.

With the pile of injuries over last several years, maybe it is time to look for a new strength/conditioning coach? Are the injuries related to the training or lack of certain training? A fresh/new set of eyes on things might be good. Same eyes/mind been in place for a very long time.

Just a thought.

I agree. Hockey’s players don’t have to be able to bench press 1000 pounds , they need lean muscles. I’m  no expert but why  our guys have more injuries than average? Also, what  do they have for skating instruction , i don’t mean drills , do we have a skating instructor who can actually analyze their weaknesses ?

You know special teams are struggling when two separate articles are written within a 3-day span about the PP/PK woes.

UND is now 0-for-11 without Berg on the first power play unit. The Hawks were 0-for-7 at Cornell without Berg, and the issues continued Friday against the Pioneers as the West Fargo native is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

The Hawks are 9-for-20 on the power play with Berg in the lineup. His targeted return is for sometime around Christmas break.

That was the 10th power play goal allowed by UND this season.

Last season, the Fighting Hawks didn’t give up 10 power play goals until Jan. 12.

UND's penalty kill dropped to 74.4 percent, ranking 51st of 64 Division-I teams.

He’s having a really good year though I believe. You think we’re going portal again?

He’s got a .900 save percentage, 7-1-1 record though. Hobie played over 100 games of junior hockey. I’m guessing they want to see a similar amount of games played. So based on what UND has done previously I’d say they’re either going portal or getting another recruit.

Which annoys me because I don’t think any of our portal guys have ever really lived up to expectations. Would rather bring in a recruit.

I could be wrong, maybe Heil starts getting more games at some point this season. but that’s my take.

Driscoll was easily our best portal goalie, I'd take him again in a heartbeat. Other than that it seems like the others underachieved, especially with how good Ludvig was at Miami compared to his season last year.  I wouldn't mind seeing us grab a 20-year old from the CHL to compete with Hobie next year so Heil can have another year to cook. I'm betting Hobie gets the start this coming Friday; Not because TJ was awful but because it's a weaker opponent and you know they want him to get more games.

I think we should start both goalies (one on Friday, one on Saturday) until one emerges. Then ride that guy into the playoffs.

Not a terrible save % for juniors, I guess not lights out either.

Really have to go 5-1 here.  A loss to Bermidgchee is almost inevitable.

I'm confused.  Last weekend there was an article about the PP woes.
This weekend, there's an article about how the PP is ranked #4 in the country.  ;)

It’s the fourth time UND has scored multiple power-play goals in a game this season. The Hawks are 4-0 in those games.

UND is now 12-for-39 (.308) on the power play this season, the fourth-best mark in the country.

Twenty-nine percent of the Hawks’ goals this year have been scored on the power play.

Either way...not enough 5x5 goals.  And not even talking about the poor PK.

You can show me all the numbers you want but our PP doesn't pass the eye test especially our zone entries! And again especially when comparing it to what DU's looked like last weekend vs what ours looked like.

PK hovering around 75% last I saw...that's something to work on.
