For reference this year ndsu, St Thomas, SDSU go 106, 111, and 123 in kenpom. Last year SDSU won it at 138 and St Thomas was the only other team in the 100s at 148

UND currently has the 355th ranked defense according to KenPom. There’s 364 teams…. In Sather’s 6 years here, his highest rated defense was 272. Brian Jones in 10 years of stats had 4 years below 272 with a low of 346 but he also had years ranked 135 and 157.

Defense is now 350th! Teams are shooting 39.1% from 3 against us. 58.6% from 2.

Why is the defense so bad

players dont understand defensive assignments?

coaches arent coaching them up?

they just don’t give a sh it ?

bingo...our bigs don't scare anyone in the summit and maybe the nsic...

brian and giorgie and amir have a combined vertical leap of 30...if that.

This team is undersized at the 5 with that and not as quick at the 2 & 3 leads us to terrible defense by us getting set up with many mismatches. This really showed up against SDSU with them having 4 young quick players at the guard position who could drive and were shooting unbelievable 3 percentage. Cluff we couldn’t matchup and if we gave help their guards were open or got edge on drive because of Cluff or even Wilkinson. Then they were effective in defending Eaglestaff so we became very mediocre team. We are missing T and Omot players we added to replace them are undersized and do not have exceptional skills other teams have to deal with. We did replace point guard position with Panoam who has exceptional skills around the basket but still needs work on his defense and learning how to take advantage of opposing players. It appears to me we have invested into many high school development players of size that are not capable of playing at this level when we needed depth that could play now.  This team has three very good players on the staring 5 and one very good role player but is now lacking very good 5 player and good guard at the 2 to 3 position which we had last year with Eaglestaff and then having exceptional 3 with Omot  last year.

Alright, 2-4 through 6 SL games. 10 more to go. What’s everyone’s predictions on the rest of the way? In my opinion we should beat USD at home on Thursday and then ORU and Denver at home too. I don’t know how many more wins I see outside of that though. Maybe at USD? Maybe at KC? I think that’s it. At BEST 7-9. At worst, we should be 5-11. Both those outcomes are unacceptable though.

Unless our defense significantly improves I just don't think we can get the stops to win many more games on our schedule.

Hope I am dead wrong!!

I just need to beat Paul Bruns another time. He’s 1-3 against UND.

As of now I’ll say we beat ORU, Denver, USD twice, and 1 win against KC, UST, Omaha, ndsu, or SDSU. I don’t know who it’ll be out of that group

Listening to the latest Reaching The Summit podcast and again Dosch says that last years SDSU team would go undefeated in the conference this year. Yet based on NET and Kenpom rankings they would be 4th. Just don’t understand his logic

Logic??? What’s that?

Kansas City finished 2nd last year, returned all their starters, and likely will finish 5th at best. Yet I’m supposed to believe that the conference is down and last years 4 loss champion would run through the league easily. We need to make podcast equipment much more expensive

Very interesting data here.

There are a couple numbers that immediately jump out to me.

Makes sense that Woodson has gotten less minutes as the season as gone on.

At what point does the redshirt freshman class start to get some run (beyond Kraft)? I guess I’m not even sure where they would fit in but at some point you should see if you have anything. Maybe it’s obvious we don’t though.

Sounds like you answered it yourself. Yet another parallel to the football team. poor recruiting, no depth, no defense.

Sad that the only two people from that class to provide any minutes are a walk on and a guy that signed in August.

When Sather signed those two Century guys early in the year, I thought that was a big mistake and waste of scholarships.  Then they played in the state tournament and it was confirmed.  Another Sather mistake in recruiting.

Correct.  To even take one of them was a reach.  Then he takes two AND gives them both a scholarship (not walk on's)

USD beat Omaha last night. Not sure if it’s Omaha coming back to reality or just Vermillion has been a tough place to play this year. Hopefully we can pull our own upset this weekend

KC with an all time choke job last night against Denver. Drops them to 2-6 in conference play. Reminder they finished 2nd last year and returned their entire starting lineup. But media heads are saying last years SDSU team would run thru the conference this year undefeated. SMH

Had the same problem in football, every year there was one game that saved him - until it didn't happen. Individual talent seems to be our problem year after year.
