NDSU fell below 11k this spring, correct? Hard to find any mention of that in the Fargo Fanboy Media.

Meanwhile, UND set a spring enrollment record!

UND was up 3.87% Spring of 2026 while NDSU was down 1.40%. UND was up 5.49% in Fall of 2025.

My hot take is if there's actually concern from NDSU about enrollment, I'd rather have it not be in the papers. Here's to another Fall of them hovering around 12k while blaming MSU-Moorhead for giving free school and discounting any UND growth by saying it's all online*.

NDSU does have this innate ability to bounce back, so I wouldn't be surprised to see an uptick this Fall (hoping I'm wrong).

* I've been talking about this for years. Hoping to see an article about a new dorm being needed in upcoming years because of demand.

once you lie 3 times about enrollment could you even trust them if they report 11k at ndac this fall?

Always fun to poke Moo U: last fall, in terms of headcount, Bismarck State College enrolled more students in its freshman class than North Dakota State University, with an official headcount of 2,611 compared to 2,178 at NDSU. It did not surpass the University of North Dakota, though, which recorded a headcount of 2,949 — a record-breaking figure in the school’s history.

I guess you missed the statement that SU has the largest on campus enrollment.  While distant learning might be the wave of the future it's also a real red herring as these students have no connection to the school or community.  It'd be interesting to ask the foundations how much they give back?  I'd say little or nothing.

Mission accomplished. Estimates are that between 5-9 percent of alumni give back to their university.

Online learning is not the wave of the future. It is, and has been, the wave for years.

Exactly why NDSU enrollment continues to decline.

Maybe less likely to give back, but they’re still paying a hell of a lot in tuition to UND.

It will be exhausting seeing the 3 idiots from the forum creating 35 page layouts for each bison game

mcfooley is already talking about mountain west expanding to 12 teams with the 2 Montana teams

i personally hope they lose every game

would be nice to see the herald expand coverage for all UND sports

also would be nice to hook up with one of the tv stations to create more UND news and coaches shows

NDSU is in trouble. Even if they finally push for a turnaround, trying to match the new facilities, expansions, and upgrades UND has already completed, it would cost at least twice as much today as it did when UND built most of theirs. That’s a brutal hole to climb out of, and it may already be too late as the gap is likely to keep snowballing from here.

UND now offers a far more attractive campus and overall educational experience, which will pull more students from the same pool. That means continued decline in enrollments for NDSU and tighter revenue…even before considering that they’d need double the investment just to catch up to UND’s current facilities.
