Fall 2025 Census Summary with Unknow Gender.xlsx

NDSU trends.

  • Enrollment - 0% change since 2023 (which has been discussed)
  • FTE's - Essentially 0% change since 2023
  • Full-Time Enrollment (both total / on-campus) - Both decreasing slightly each last 2 years
  • Distance Only Students: Increasing
  • Freshman Class Size: Increasing

@Teeder11 do you know if NDSU is still matching the North Star Promise free tuition for MN students whose families make below 80k a year? I assume they are. One of the concerns I would have is although it would really help recruit FR class from Minnesota, would there be a lower retention rate? Would be interested how much money that's costing to fund a year matching that program.

Will dive into UND's trends once they post.

The 2008 market crash crashed birth rates (2008 + 18 years later = 2026). For those of you who've seen it, it's the opening scene from "Idiocracy":

"There's no way we could have a child now, not with the market the way it is."
"It just wouldn't make sense."

From the same school who has repeatedly railed against understanding and accommodating how students want to learn these days and actually giving them options?? Blasphemy!

Also, not sure what's going on but for enrollment to be the exact same the last 3 years is absolutely hilarious because the odds of it have to be astronomical and it just looks lazy.

I believe it’s still in development. Have not seen anything yet.

For what it's worth, the North Dakota University System just put this chart out:

I realize the spin / cherry picking of numbers that come along with these articles, but can someone explain the quote below vs what does distance only students mean from the chart?

From Forum article talking about NDSU.

The university said it also leads all North Dakota colleges and universities in in-person enrollment, with 95% of students taking classes on campus.

It's a pot-shot at on-line learners, distance education, like the full-time school teacher at Sargent Central or Dakota Prairie or North Border working on a master's degree.

Former NDSU President Bresciani gave little support to NDSU online programs. Cook realizes the error but is playing from behind.

I'm more looking for clarification on the actual numbers used. I took distance only students as 100% on-line. Or would that # include hybrid? Or are there on-line classes where you have to be in-person a time or two a semester? If so, the 95% would make more sense. Trying to cut through the BS (I'll be doing with UND's #'s as well).

Might today's students want a bright, clean campus with new, modern facilities for more than just the football team?

I ponder this as I drive past a new Union, Education bldg, Business school, Law library and addition, Med school, Wilkerson/West/McVey, Memorial Village I and II, a new STEM bldg under construction, and yeah, Pollard Center.

If I recall correctly, I think one of the UND Football recruits or someone else that recently mentioned how nice the campus looked in parts which definitely seemed to help get them into the program.

Nice piece on how UND got to where we are today...Record enrollment just part of the story

Quote

Johnson agreed. Of course, any and all of the leaders mentioned above, he said, would quickly and rightly point out that lots of people have helped UND achieve its success. Likewise, the North Dakota Legislature played a vital role, as have the donors and many others who’ve helped the campus upgrades, beautification and other aspects of renewal come about.

“But the point is, UND has not simply been thriving all along,” Johnson said. “Eight years ago, we went through a massive budget cutting exercise, and we wound up losing lots of people.”

UND’s careful and continued renewal since then was neither accidental nor preordained, Johnson said. Instead, it resulted from higher education leadership at its best – a textbook example of the right people, not just the right individuals, in place across the UND campus and the state at the right times

When NDSU reports the exact same total enrollment 3 years in a row, their numbers can't be trusted.  I call BS and would be surprised if there enrollment wasn't down.

The year is 2030… NDSU’s enrollment is less than MSU Moorhead’s. McFeely posts his third article of the week begging an FBS conference for an invite.

Meanwhile at UND, another record breaking enrollment of 25,000+!

And another solid piece on growth at UND....At Wake Up to UND, President Andrew Armacost tells attendees there's 'no better place to be' than UND

Quote

University of North Dakota President Andrew Armacost proclaimed there is “no better place to be” than UND to business leaders and community members present for the annual Wake Up to UND breakfast on Friday, Sept. 26.

It looks like UND is on a nice trajectory.
