It just seems like it is going to be - Fruechte.  I don't know if that is good or bad.  Miller was interviewed at half and he thought that it could be announced as soon as tomorrow.

That would be bush league.

Chaves made a bad extension and this new deal with Bubba basically spreads his buyout out further. With his job on the line I just don’t see why he would go with Fruechte.

If Fruechte is Chavez's guy what juice does he really bring to the program and fanbase?

Fruechte Vikings jerseys.

Watching the Oregon Penn St game and let me just say that I will snap if the new coach doesn’t emphasize the TE in the offense. TEs are dominating modern football and we treat them like the forward pass is still illegal.

If we were a top 5 FCS program, it would make sense to hire internally. But we are not. So it doesn't make sense.

Ask Adam Thielen

I don't know if getting FB advice from anyone in Carolina right now is a good idea

Baldwin had one year of HC experience at D2 level after leaving EWU, where he was the OC for 4 years.  It was literally an inbred hire that we all despise.

He did quite well at Central Washington that one year, though, as the head coach. Not quite the same. The “inbred” choices here are all guys who have never been a head coach, and they’ve been most recently on losing teams as an assistant.

I need to be clear, Miller did not say it was going to be Fruechte - only that interviews were today and an announcement could be as soon as tomorrow.  Miller did not give any idication of who could be.

It’s not that I don’t think he would be good. I just can’t get over the optics. We need a hire with great optics and a coach that doesn’t look like it’s running down his leg every game.

True, but more important than optics is success. Who do we (and most importantly Chaves) honestly think is the best candidate to turn UND football into a championship contender?

Chaves historically hires D2 head coach, going back to Beau Baldwin at EWU and most recently Paul Sather at UND.
I’d guess it will be a Midwest D2 coach or the lazy (and risky) move of Fruechte being promoted.

Hoffner beat Bolte today, maybe Hoffner?

From the very beginning (see my earlier posts), Schmidt has been the favorite. Too much fraternity support and now fundraising. It’s basically a hiring similar to Bubba - UND ties and is familiar to alumni. Justification used is it is “DeBoer’s guy” , although he’s not working for him anymore and cut ties … UND going with Schmidt could work, but could be mediocrity like with Bubba. We will see.

Schmidt hasn’t cut ties to DeBoer. They still communicate and DeBoer said he is welcome to join him in Alabama.
If FB Alumni were organized and “now fundraising “ I would know. That isn’t to say there aren’t FB alumni pushing for him to get the job, but probably just as many pushing for Tibesar.

I’m kind of in shock. I shouldn’t be, since Chaves apparently is doing the most Chaves thing possible.

Like others have said, Freuchte might be the right call. I hope to see instantly a stark difference from everything Bubba. Blow up the defensive staff. Keep the critical players from entering portal. That will start building excitement. Win the portal!

Sure, he did not cut ties completely, but he’s not working for him anymore even though he had that opportunity.

If Chaves does this internal hiring crap again, my expectations will remain rock bottom until I see something that suggests otherwise.
