coltssiouxfan Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Hi everyone, I’m a new season ticket holder and got a few passes for season long tailgating. I am somewhat new at this but does anyone have any suggestions for materials I will need? I think I need some sorry of a tent and I’m thinking a 10x10. Is that the right side for the alerus parking lot? And then what do people suggest for a flag pole to hold two flags? Thanks everyone for the help and I look forward to meeting some of you! 2 Quote
coltssiouxfan Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 I guess the best question is do people suggest a tent for tailgating or no? Quote
Siouxperman8 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 It's probably less than half that have tents. We don't use one unless rain is expected. It can get pretty windy in GF so tents can be a problem on some days unless you have a good one. I got a telescoping flagpole on Amazon that holds two flags and it works pretty well. Quote
shep Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I love tailgating but agree that less than half have tents. Basically, many park their vehicle to block the wind and set up from there. Frankly, just do a good tour of the others and make your decisions from there. Quote
jdub27 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Take your time, see what others have and go from there. Also, try to by higher quality stuff right away, otherwise you'll be replacing in short order (lesson learned). Quote
CMSioux Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 So if we show up at noon do you think the lots will ne blocked closed? Quote
MadScout03 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I doubt it. Last year we showed up early and drove right in. We were there before the guys checking passes were, so we ended up bringing our passes to them once they were set up. Quote
Siouxperman8 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Grill and cooler(s) are a must. It is also nice to have a table of some sort to set out food, napkins, etc. The rest is optional. Quote

I'm sure you probably saw that somebody this posted on the other thread...but thought I'd paste it here too just in case you missed it. Sounds like they are moving some things around, overall sounds like some good improvements for this year. https://fightinghawks.com/news/2018/8/23/und-and-spectra-reveal-improvements-for-2018-football-season.aspx 1 Quote
Popular Post LeaveNoDoubt Posted August 23, 2018 Popular Post Posted August 23, 2018 Tents can be nice for shade on hot days an possible rain. If you get used to setting up a tent and get a good system to hold it down I’d say it’s worth it to have. A grill and cooler and table/bar make life always better. Throw in some games to play and it’s a great time. Here is the rig we use, works awesome. 1 8 Quote

Smoggy Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 You almost need extra spots to have vehicles park on flag poles with base or even tents to hold them down. Quote
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Get a real heavy duty large tarp that will cover your entire allocated area with 4 super duty strong steel legs - of which each anchored by a 16 gallon keg of beer. All plumbed to fast draw spigots. Oh, green Solo cups!! Quote
