geaux_sioux Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 It’s that time of year where a good portion of the freshman class gets their first taste of college football so I figure it’s also a good time to see who everyone has as their top 5 incoming fr for this season. Being in the top five could be instant impact or lon term potential or both. Quote

UNDBIZ Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Garrett Maag - WR - Long term Mike Bruner - LB Everett Williams - LB - Immediate impact Kadon Kauppinen - S - Long term CJ Siegel - CB - Long term I really hope the top 5 outgoing seniors list includes an OL or 2 in 5 years. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 1. WR Garrett Maag - I think we stole this guy, huge wingspan, big hands, big frame, long strides. I think he has a shot to contribute this year. He has filled his frame out and has good enough speed. 2. CB CJ Siegel - This kid is an unreal all around athlete. Watch his basketball tape on hudl and you will see why I think he’s got the goods to be a really good corner for us. Ball skills and quickness for days. He also seems to have the awareness that some of our DBs lack. 3. CB Marcus Vaughn-Jones - when I watch his film I can’t help but think of Deion Harris. He’s got the length at 6’3” and he’s got the hands and he’s got the quicks. 4. OG Kyle Hergel - he’s just a big strong mean dude. He steamrolls people on his film and then goes in to get some more. I things don’t work out at guard for him I think he’d make a great NT for us. He plays with the edge that we need more of. 5. DB Jacob Odom - another long rangy DB with great ball skills. This kid absolutely attacks the ball in the air. He competes for everything and you can tell he’s got that edge as well. Also a very good WR. Honorable mention- TE Beau Foix. What a name. What a name. Quote

L/S Hinders I love the specialists we brought in but I just couldn’t bring myself to vote for them even though they’ll both start and look reall really good. I’d like to see some fakes with Peterson since he’s the fastest fr we brought in this year. Kids got wheels and hands. Quote

I put them in my TOP 5 only for immediate impact purposes, with the departure of Taubs and Holmen. What do you know about specialists, anyway?? ( ; Quote
gundy1124 Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 1. Everett Williams/Tyron Verde - Whomever steps up at inside gives us some run stopping pride back. 2. Lenny Nelson - Big and strong, not sure if corner or safety yet, but will add to what was an injured, then young and porous secondary last year. 3. Garrett Maag - Huge and athletic, runs better that our other 'bigs' at WR. Seems to 'live' for football type of guy. 4. Donny Ventrelli - 6'4" 250 lb DE/TE in High School, projected as a guard. If he can redshirt and put the size on, this guy could be all-conference and more. He's off the edge like a wild man, then split out at WR, most athletic guard I've seen. 5. CB CJ Siegel - Quick as lightning. We'll see how fast he is, and how well he can tackle are my concerns. I thinks he's a year out, but could be really good. 1 Quote
ND1 Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 With the new NCAA rule, true freshman can play in up to 4 games and not lose their redshirt year. Throw them into the a few games and see how they do. Quote

Sioux94 Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 The best thing I like about reading this is people are listing different guys, which means there are more than just one or two guys that people think really have some potential. Some of the guys listed were transfers and not freshman, but still. In a complete turd of a year, 2017, we still got some pretty good recruits and transfers. Still have a LOT to prove this year, but we also have a fair amount to be excited about with some of the new guys and injured guys that are hopefully returning to a full strength. Quote

My picks were meant to be strictly the new incoming frosh. I would have had a slightly different outlook had I included the transfers. Quote

Hopefully we don't have to burn their shirts, but we'll see. Nice thing about that rule is if there is an injury for a week or two, one of these guys could play out of necessity but not burn their redshirt. 3 Quote
