Great win for the U.S. over Russia today!  Sets up another big matchup on Saturday against Canada.

Anybody else think the U.S. should have declined the penalty shot and made Russia serve the penalty late in the game?  Tough call, but I think given the situation and crappy ice I go a man up for the remainder of the game.  Doesn't matter right now, but a talking point.

Nope. Take a free penalty shot every time.

I get what you're saying - run that clock with multiple chances vs. an all or nothing with no time coming off - but I probably still take the shot.  Goalies are typically disadvantaged on the penalty shot, plus you have no chance of giving up a short-handed breakaway while you try to score.

I couldn't find in the IIHF rule book where declining a penalty shot is even a option.

USA Hockey has it in their rule book, so I'd assume it's similar, if not the same.

Yeah I know USA hockey gives you the option....but like I said It doesn't say anything about in the international rule book.

And like I said, I'd assume it's similar since USA Hockey plays in IIHF tournaments.

Not trying to get in a pissing match here .... but wouldn't you think they would say it in the rule book then like USA hockey does?

Even if it was an option, I would only ask for that if it was one of my goon D-man awarded the shot. The type of goon d-man that has 1 lifetime hockey career goal. Having an unpressed breakaway will almost always give you a better look than a 2 minute PP.

Sure, but it'd be weird for USA Hockey to make it a rule if it's not a rule in IIHF, right?

Not really. I'm sure it's not the only difference between the two rule books.

So how many minutes did Jost get yesterday? I couldn't watch. Did he not play much, what was the deal?

What line was he on?  I don't understand...

I was wondering the same thing. Looks like he was right in the middle of the pack for ice time.

Is Jost young enough to be on next year's junior team?

Alright man. Agree to disagree. Yeah, so, go ahead and stick with "right" when you're not actually sure you are lol.
