UND FIGHTING HAWKS @ Denver - SATURDAY Gameday

what happened this weekend is something that hasn't happened in 11 years-getting swept in February.  The last time is happened was in Hak's first year at home against Denver as well.  This squad has been on cruise control for the most part this season and has gotten away several times with not playing very well and getting a win despite.  Maybe Brad will have their full attention this week.  If this is their low point of the season, so be it as long as they are playing their best hockey of the year starting the second weekend in March and on.

You nerds do know that the players laugh at you, and wish they were playing in Canada and getting laid.  But going to class is so much fun, its embarrassing

I understand that you're probly 15 or 16 in your room bored of all the porno sites that you've been looking at for the past 8 hours and your hand is extremely tired cuz you can't buy a girlfriend. I'm sure you don't understand that the players choose to come here to UND to play college hockey and become men and play against men and not little teenage boys. But that's right, you couldn't make any team if your life depended on it so you have to troll other sites to get your jollies off!

For all the complaining you have done about Hakstol over the years, isn't that bold part an amazing stat?

I recall a bad loss to DU last year at the Target Center.  The team responded well at Scheel's Arena and will as well next weekend.

you must have me confused with someone else:)  My only complaint about Hakstol over the years was that in some of the biggest gamest games the team came out flat unprepared.  I never once called for or made mention that UND could do better with someone else.  I would usually have my November the season is over rant, but that was nothing against Hakstol it was just that the team was usually 6-8 and sitting 35th in the pairwise.

Well now that I've calmed down and read through some of these points and ideas, perhaps we're better off not having to rip of 18 or 19 straight heading into the postseason.  The boys have set themselves up to not have to run the table just to survive. They can lay some eggs now and not really feel the consequences prior to the post season (I understand seeding and all that, but unless they lose out, they probably aren't in danger of being out to the big tourney.  And as we have seen the past 10 years or so, seeding really doesn't matter in most situations with this tourney anymore).  I realize that a few of Hak's teams were in the same boat and still didn't get it done, but still.

Get this crap sandwich play out of the system before March arrives.  Just have to get in these days.  Get in and it's anyone's tourney to have.  My two cents, which ain't worth much.

Didn't see Saturday's game (thanks, ROOT, for making the game unavailable to most people), but on Friday I thought Denver outran UND with their speed, and caused a bunch of defensive zone turnovers with speedy chaos.  UND's defensemen did not look good (with the exception of Stecher), which is the most disappointing part.

How huge would this last weekend be if the boys go on a winning streak all the way to hanging #8?

Or maybe we should all just be upset..

How could they let us down like this!

Hate to say it, but we hear the same old song and dance every year.  This will be the turn around series.  I am as big of a fan as them all, but this weekend was just a big letdown.  This team had a chance to take the penrose firmly and they laid an egg.

And?

Who says this weekend can't be a spark going forward? We have a weekend like this pretty much every season. And we've made the Frozen Four the last two and umpteen since Hak.

They can still absolutely win the Penrose.

I am not saying burn the ship, oh wait that was last years team. ;)  But I am saying I get it, this happens every year and it seems like it is about this time of year that it happens.  Now the team has 3 series left and all 3 are going to be tough.  This team needs to be different.  Go win both games this weekend and build from there.

We are in the tournament which is what really matters. We've had teams enter every which way in the last 10-15 years, from 1 seed to barely squeaking in on an ot goal from Wisconsin. We have also made the frozen four from all those positions. This weekend was disappointing but if the team learns from it and applies it to the rest of the season I don't see why we can't be there in April again with a chance to win it all. I've long learned not to despair on any bad loss too long (looking at you University of British Columbia). I think a home series next weekend will help start the push towards playoff hockey.

Every single independent source I have heard and read (including plenty of Golden Gopher fans who tuned in to watch the game) referred to Friday night's DU/UND hockey game as one of the best games they have seen in recent memory.

It's only on SiouxSports.com that I can check in and read how the Fighting Hawks seemingly got rolled in the worst weekend in North Dakota hockey history.

I agree with you on this.  That was by far the best college hockey game I have seen this year.  I have a feeling that DU is going to make some noise in the tourney and UND may see them again.  I am really hoping that what we got out of the CBS line on Sat isn't what we get for the rest of the year.  I am looking forward to Minneapolis being a trophy raising for a first time.

It's been hard not to notice that, MM.   I think there is a term for that in formal logic, when people basically allow themselves to claim that the offensive or disappointing act was not committed by the person or group they favor but by a different version of that person or group.   The team that Denver beat on Friday was not our Sioux team but the worst version Sioux team we have seen all season--an aberration.    We all do it, I'm sure, when our boys lose, but it seems that the more vested we are in the outcome on a personal happiness level, the more likely we are to do that.

Not that that makes any sense, now that I've read it.

That wasn't me thinking clearly.  :D

Huh? "Same old song and dance" what team do you follow that doesn't do good every year?

The team I follow had me watching them in person at the last two FF's!

Philly and Boston...

The same old song and dance is the fans saying, " this could be the series".  Then I went on to state my opinion about the team.  It is the same old with the fans, which makes us fans.  Just because I chose not to go to Boston or Philly, that makes me less of a fan?

I agree that Friday night was a great hockey game. Very fast back and fourth type game. Obviously I would like a different outcome but that doesn't mean that the quality of hockey was lacking.

Saturday night was a different story. Probably a good gut check for the team.

Huh? You are asking me like I said you are not a fan, or as much of a fan as me! I have no idea where you got that from? All I'm saying is this last weekend COULD be the beginning of a winning streak to hang #8! Not sure your problem with that?

Only thing I questioned on your comment is you act like this team NEVER turns their season around because the past proves your point(?), but these teams you talk about went to the FF, and my proof of that is I was there and witnessed them playing in it!

Not sure what you're arguing about.

Go Sioux/Hawks!
