My daughter got recruited by Warroad 7 years ago after she went to a camp up there. She did not like it up there. Worked out good though as I got to coach her all 4 years in high school here.:)

Whoa, I thought only private schools recruit??:silly:

You ever been to Minnetonka HS and seen their facilities and FB "stadium"?

I drove onto the property once just to look at both but was promptly escorted off the premises by a security guard because my vehicle wasn't a Mercedes or an Audi.  ;)

Maybe it is time to upgrade from the Geo Metro.

Just saying...................

When Bernie is president, we'll ALL have BMW's, so I'm just biding my time for now.

So what you are saying is I will finally have a vehicle that I can sync my Obamaphone via Bluetooth to?

I must say I'm extremely giddy all of a sudden.

Do they have the numbers to support more?

Are they cutting girls?

I honestly don't know.....was just having this discussion with my brother.

Actually, no they do NOT have the numbers to support more at this time and NO they have NEVER cut, despite what all the rumors out there are saying (some claiming they have had as many as 100 girls tryout??). Will there be a time in the future when two teams will happen....yes. As of right now, if ALL girls currently playing at the 10u level continue playing hockey (which is really when the numbers are large enough to support it and sustain it) it could be as far out as 2023. Unless the numbers are strong enough to support two teams for longer than a year or two, they will not go through the expense of adding a second team only to drop it a year or two down the road to pick it up again in 5.......I really wish that everyone who THINKS they know everything about Bismarck girls' hockey would take the time to actually get all the facts.

Don't know why they would think it should go to Fargo permanently.  Let's wait and see how it goes for Fargo when it isn't a novelty and they have had it there for a while.  Besides, the reason it doesn't do as well in Grand Forks is because there is so much more to do here!

Correct on the novelty factor.  9500+ attended the first championship game at the new Ralph, so lets compare apples to apples here.  That said, we will see how Fargo does next time.

Do you think that may have had to do with people wanting to see the new Ralph?

Its like they didn't want to the play the state hockey games on different size rinks or something. Again, the 10am time is no different than any other sport, it was approved by the NDHSAA and is only an issue to those who don't want to get up a little earlier in the morning.

I guess I'm not following you on the Duluth comparison, however I their schedule doesn't show a single home game in the last 3 years that the men have played an afternoon game. I put the chance that it would happen in Grand Forks (strictly because of women's hockey) right around 0%.

I guess your opinion on this matter wasn't shared by the out of town coaches that played the early game...http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/local-sports/3956591-state-hockey-notebook-coaches-arent-fans-early-start

The people running REA, who have a much better idea than you about what Ralph wanted, are the ones making the schedule. So my guess is that you are clueless and that Ralph would not be in your corner.

Tweet from Kevin Fee, a former GF Herald reporter who interviewed Ralph when he dedicated the REA...I guess I am not so clueless now am I 82SiouxGuy?

GF hock leders must step up and keep state hock. Ralph's vision (talked to him when he annced new arena) UND men & and hs hock. Get it done.

Facts are the numbers are and have been there. This from a former Bismarck high school girls coach that I'm good friends with. Nice try though.

Apparently your friend may not have as accurate information as you may think. Numbers have never been at a sustainable level for BOTH schools (key word is sustainable here). One has to take in to account the number of skaters at EACH school and for the foreseeable future. One school may have 6-8 skaters and no goalie and the other school may have 12-13 with 2 goalies.....and two to three years down the road, that reverses. What do you suggest they should do in that case.....hold a draft every year so each team has the correct number of skaters and 1 goalie, even if it means some girls may not be playing for the school they actually attend? I am far more "in the know" than you may think.

Since the current team is not associated with a high school a second team could be the same. The bottom line is you have 2 programs and the sport will grow. Girls would much rather play high school programs than U19 teams.

The high school roster has 25 and they have a 14U team with 19 on it. By the way that team is playing in the state 19U league and are 12 and 0 with a goal differential of +89. Like others have said I'm sure there are some girls that quit because of the competition.

Exactly. I coached with 12 girls and we competed with everyone in the state. First year I coached over half my team were freshman or younger. Like I said Bismarck has the numbers for 2 teams.

Since there is a 14u team with Bismarck Hockey Boosters, Bismarck Public Schools is not going to (nor are they able to) force anyone younger than 9th grade to play at the high school level. I understand you coached in a smaller town. Not everyone is gung ho to have 7th graders playing against seniors. If parents/girls choose to stay at the 14u level, that is their prerogative.

Again grow the sport not the trophy case and the only way to do that is to have 2 teams in Bismarck. God forbid if they don't make it to the championship game every year.

Bismarck could field two girls teams.   It's just a matter of having one stacked team or two competitive teams.  l know kids that have quit because with only one HS team the writing is on the wall.  With two HS teams the 14u numbers would be higher.   If the interest is in allowing more kids to play and grow the sport they should have 2 teams.  If the interest is to win titles keep one.

Same reason why Valley City, St. Marys, Shanley, Beulah, Wahpeton, and so forth were "too small" to compete with the AAA schools in football.  So they move down and manhandle every AA team.  Gee, that's fair to those teams that are legitimately small towns.

All about winning by having every advantage possible.  Upsets be damned.

Now the bottom AA teams should say they are too small to compete with VC and Shanley and then go beat the hell out of A teams.  And trickle it on down...

I'm sure coaches in all the other sports have opinions too but I'm not sure how that matters because it doesn't change the fact that the start times are what they are. However, considering the teams aren't staying over night, that dampens the economic impact that people are putting out there. And as I proved (despite your instance it had never happened), this isn't the first time the tournament has been set up like this, nor is it the first time there have been games at the times they were at, across the board during all rounds. However, I'm sure that Idalski and Faison were happy with the way the weekend turned out, so that is a positive.

As to your comment about what Kevin Fee has to say, again, I'll differ to the management team at the Ralph who's job is to run the arena in a way Ralph would approve and report to a board of directors who ensure that. If it is imperative that Grand Forks keep the tournament maybe the REA isn't the correct venue for it and if the NDHSAA is bent on making the most money, maybe Grand Forks isn't the correct location because it becomes a pretty tough argument to permanently have it in Grand Forks if the gate is that much larger in Fargo.

Did those teams (V.C., Shanley...) have an option?  Looks like there are 16 AAA teams and 16 AA.  There has to be a break somewhere.
