MafiaMan
Only short sighted people would judge the success of a conference based upon the first 2 years of the conference tournament. It's not a tradition to anyone yet, it's new. You're probably right. Give it another 30-50 years or so and B10 hockey will be a "tradition." The conference tournament might even draw a couple hundred fans!
Siouxperfan7
The biggest problem with the B1G tournament is that at the 6 B1G schools, hockey is probably the 3rd or 4th most popular sport at that school. It is probably the most popular at Minnesota, but at the other schools it's not even close. So when you are having a tournament for your 3rd most poplar sport at the same time your second most popular sport (Mens basketball) is competing in the NCAA basketball tournament, this type of interest in the conference hockey tournament is almost expected. It's not a tradition to anyone yet, it's new. But in the league's first year it produced 2 of the 4 #1 seeds which was a pretty good start. So in 5 years if you increase attendance by 20% year over year there will be 8500 fans. Gotta have goals.
Mariucci
You're probably right. Give it another 30-50 years or so and B10 hockey will be a "tradition." The conference tournament might even draw a couple hundred fans! College hockey has always been changing. When I first started watching college hockey in the '80's the WCHA was an 8 team league. It went to 10, then 12, and even lost a member(NMU) during that time as well. Only 7 of the 12 teams were there originally. Heck the Gophers have Big Ten Champion banners hanging in Mariucci from the '60's or '70's. College hockey's landscape has always evolved, this is nothing new. I would think long time fans of an elite program would have more perspective than this. And BTW Siouxperfan7, hockey is BY FAR the third most popular sport on our campus and it's not close. The Sicatoka
Latest tidbits from Jim Dahl's http://collegehockeyranked.com/ Minnesota can no longer make it at-large without any wins if Harvard wins today. Boston College is an at-large if Harvard and St. Lawrence win today. Mass.-Lowell can’t make it at-large (though could still be alive in their own tournament) if Harvard wins today. Yale can’t make it at-large if Quinnipiac and Colgate win today. Vermont can’t make it at-large if Harvard and Colgate win today. Talk about a dilemma: Cheer for Harvard to make it tougher on Minnesota, but put in BC in the process.

BC makes it in like 99.5% of the time out of the possible outcomes. Cheer for Harvard all your heart desires and let's see those dirty stinking rodents on the golf course. nodakvindy
If you want BC out, pull for Ferris in the WCHA. That is a lynchpin to knocking them out, as is BU not winning Hockey East and St. Cloud winning at least once (3rd Place game is just fine). Here is one of many options that have both Minnesota and BC on the golf course. http://goo.gl/BWTj14
Siouxperfan7
I wonder what the attendance numbers will be today at the B1G! Minnesota playing this afternoon should be a little better you would think. More curious about the Michigan/Michigan State game tonight. You would think 2 instate rivals playing the night game in their conference tournament in their home state would draw quite a few fans. I guess we will see!!
