jimdahl Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I'll open the inevitable discussion of the Pairwise Rankings with my (awesome!) new article: When to start looking at PWR (revisited) Which includes lots of awesome charts like this: 1 Quote
jimdahl Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 A first look at the at-large tournament cutlines To save you the trouble of reading it... Who's a lock? No one. Who's out? #38 New Hampshire and below, but #28 Notre Dame and below have a steep hill to climb. Quote
siouxczech29 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 It was a pleasant surprise looking at pairwise this morning...I guess we got some help this weekend Quote
UND99 Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 It was a pleasant surprise looking at pairwise this morning...I guess we got some help this weekend We sure did. Our sweep and St Lawrence beating Harvard and Western Michigan beating UMD bumped us from 6th to 4th. Quote
jimdahl Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 UND stands a chance of taking over #1 this weekendIt’s a bit of a longshot, but if everything goes well for UND this weekend, they could climb to #1 in the PairWise Rankings. Incumbent Minnesota State controls it’s own destiny — a sweep guarantees they stay atop the heap for one more week. A split, however, opens the door for UND. Quote
InHeavenThereIsNoBeer Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 UND stands a chance of taking over #1 this weekend These scenarios are so much better than the one's we're used to this time of year Quote
jimdahl Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 UND's probably not moving up in it's idle week, but is in pretty good shape for the season. Weekly UND PWR Outlook 1 Quote
jimdahl Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 And if you're wondering how teams other than UND are doing, Tournament cutlines revisited 2 Quote
Goon Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 And if you're wondering how teams other than UND are doing, Tournament cutlines revisited That's good stuff Jim. Quote
jimdahl Posted February 11, 2015 Author Posted February 11, 2015 Not surprisingly, this weekend is a big PWR matchup for UND. Weekly PWR outlook Quote
stoneySIOUX Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Not surprisingly, this weekend is a big PWR matchup for UND. Weekly PWR outlook So, sweep -- still 2, split -- still 2, swept -- 8.... ugh. Quote
InHeavenThereIsNoBeer Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 So, sweep -- still 2, split -- still 2, swept -- 8.... ugh. Split more likely 3 than 2 but yeah, we need at least 1 win! So a sweep will be just fine. 1 Quote
Goon Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Not surprisingly, this weekend is a big PWR matchup for UND. Weekly PWR outlook Jim thanks for explaining the PWR stuff to us. Quote
Eggs412 Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 It's sad, but I miss not having the PWR this week to run different scenarios through my head Quote
jimdahl Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 Oh my, UND made the "Big PWR Game of the Week"TM (not really). Alas, it's not because anything interesting is happening to UND, but UND could give quite a gift to Western Michigan by dropping a couple Quote
Redneksioux Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 So Und is only behind Mankato by about .2 in rpi. Will und's strength of schedule allow them to bypass Mankato by matching their number of wins from here on out? Quote
siouxnami Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Yes, however if BSU takes a game from MSU that would be very helpful. So Und is only behind Mankato by about .2 in rpi. Will und's strength of schedule allow them to bypass Mankato by matching their number of wins from here on out? Quote
jimdahl Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 This is UND's best chance at climbing to #1 in a long time: http://collegehockeyranked.com/2015/02/25/big-pwr-games-of-the-week/ KRACH says the teams are about equal, with #3 Michigan Tech having about a 46% chance of winning each game. Even one loss by Minnesota State would open the door for North Dakota. Quote
hky Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Maybe this was asked and answered. But why didn't Mankato fall after their tie and loss to Alaska? Quote
Redneksioux Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Maybe this was asked and answered. But why didn't Mankato fall after their tie and loss to Alaska? They did fall some but their rpi was so far ahead they stayed at the 1 spot still. I think those games are why Und is right on their tail now. Quote
bale31 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Yep.....kato had a huge lead on the fiEld. If I remember correctly for a while the difference between kato and und was approximately the same as what it was between und at #2 and the #6 team. Kato's sos is just about the same as und's so when kato had 3 more wins, there was a huge cushion built in. That cushion is now gone after that weekend. Quote
MafiaMan Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Maybe this was asked and answered. But why didn't Mankato fall after their tie and loss to Alaska? A better question would be how and why so damn many highly ranked teams lost to teams in the 30s, 40s, and 50s, allowing Minnesota to move up from the "Fire Lucia" column into an almost sure-thing tournament participant. Not if we cheer loudly enough for the Spartans tonight and tomorrow. One loss will put them on the bubble and get that thread churning again. A sweep drops them to 18-19, which would probably result in a full fledged GPL meltdown Quote
