geaux_sioux Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 We need speed. He appears to have some. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Hammon tweeted this kid from his hs http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2789951/marcus-allenabout playing with him in college. Looks pretty dynamic. Quote
jjensen Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Per UND Recruiting: Lee Pronschinske from Arcadia, WI http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3143211/lee-pronschinske Brooklyn Shurelds from Lima, OH http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2238078/brooklyn-shurelds Woody Archibald from Willmar, MN http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1186784/woody-archibald Sam Gromacki from Waukesha, WI Quote
geaux_sioux Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Mr Gromacki can move for a big fella. Like a dancing bear. If he was taller im sure some big schools would be after him. His footspeed is what we want on the DL. Quick feet usually don't slow down with some added weight. Quote
Nodak78 Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 Shurelds likes to hit. Would like to see him with Reyes. Quote

Hambone Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 UND has received a commitment from Justus Merz, OL out of Kansas. Had offers from SDSU. Big kid and welcome addition to the oline.http://missouristate.scout.com/a.z?s=463&p=8&c=1&nid=7940212http://www.hudl.com/athlete/757886/justus-merz Quote

When was the last time we got a kid from Kansas? Quote
geaux_sioux Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Just watched his tape and holy !@#$ can that big fella move. It says he runs a 4.78 40.... That may not be all that outlandish. I think we have a stud on our hands here. Quote
Csonked Out Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Just watched his tape and holy !@#$ can that big fella move. It says he runs a 4.78 40.... That may not be all that outlandish. I think we have a stud on our hands here. A couple things I noticed 1) He plays to the whistle and has a nasty side to him that is missing from a lot of the current hogs. 2) He is affective in run-blocking as was especially effective when asked to pull He has some work to do in his pass protection as it certainly wasn't nearly as impressive as his run blocking was, and he could also benefit from another 15-20 lbs on his frame. I could honestly see him as a center or guard in our system. It is refreshing to see an offensive line commit with speed and technique that needs more size. I always hated how Mussman would recruit guys that already had the size but couldnn't move. You can add size with proper development, speed isn't nearly as easy. Quote
UND92,96 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 More beef. When was the last time we got a kid from Kansas? I don't ever recall a high school recruit from Kansas at UND. But I like the idea of recruiting another midwestern state, particularly one without an FCS program. Quote

Grady, Rooney, Williams and now Merz fit the mold of agile guys who have room to add weight. Good to see. Welcome to UND Justus. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I don't care if these hogs can pass pro when they come in, as long as they are run blocking beasts with quick feet the rest will take care of itself. Quote
Nodak78 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Sure like the looks of this class. OL is getting bigger, faster and stronger. Quote
UNDBIZ Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 UND commit John Santiago's senior highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/814437/highlights/194134375 Granted the competition is somewhat suspect, but he certainly doesn't shy away from contact and it takes more than an arm to take him down. He makes one move at the line and then it's off to the races. I could see him in a 3rd down back role. Quote
BigGame Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 A lot of times in recent years it looks like we have brought in guys that can mash on the oline. The difference with this young man is how athletic he looks in comparision to a lot of recruits we have seen in the past. Quote

Most high school players with his speed look to beat people to the edge but he isn't afraid to cut things up. Quote

geaux_sioux Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 We always say that This time I think it's actually for real. Last year was pretty good as well. Williams is long and lean and needs to put on a lot of weight, we haven't had that in a while. Seems like, as someone already noted, that Muss brought in guys that were already at or over 300 lbs. That accounts for the lack of foot speed by some of our recent OL. Williams Grady Rooney and especially Merz all have very good feet and can run a little bit. Merz runs like a deer and I'm very interested to see if he can stay lean and mean as he adds 20-30 lbs over the next couple of years. This bodes well for the future. Quote
