The Sicatoka
I actually agree with the rumor, I see the P5 wanting more G5 teams. A number of FBS (P5) school do not want to play FCS schools anymore but paying G5 schools can get expensive. More G5 schools won't impact their (P5) revenue streams in anyway and it will increase the potential pool of schools they (the P5) can schedule and as a result drive down guarantees a bit. Yup. It's economics based, and you defined the scenario very well. (I tweaked your wording a bit to help those who don't see it.)
SiouxVolley
http://brook.land/2015/05/athletics-unveils-new-100-million-five-year-plan/ It sure looks like Stony Brook is planning FBS facilities soon, expanding to 20k and building an IPF, but the MAC won't take them. So what's the rush? JMU, Delaware, Towson, Liberty, maybe Villanova, Stony Brook, Albany, UMass, UNH, and maybe Maine would make a nice east coast FBS conference. Nearly all are capable. JMU has resisted the Belt but still has FBS intentions.

Ohio or Akron could leave the MAC, but it would be a big risk. JMU would certainly take an invite. Ga St makes media and recruiting sense, but not good football. CUSA might take USA, La-La or Ark St, but they don't have the geography that the eastern CUSA want. The UAB President is going to be fired whatever he decides, as UAB people have revolted against Watts and the UA-Tuscaloosa board wants UAB football dead. SiouxVolley
UAB reinstates FBS with a 2016 target to play again. So now you are now board after criticizing me for well over a year? Stony Brook has just as good attributes as Rutgers, maybe even better, as SB is AAU, in the NYC metro, and runs Brookhaven Nat'l Labs. Stony Brook is one of the few schools to run a National Lab, with Cal-Berkley (Livermore and Los Alamos) and U of Chicago (Argonne) among the few. No, I'm not on board with whole conferences being allowed to move up, that's a silly notion. I was just noticing your contradictory opinion in this post. SiouxVolley
Bisonville is going nuts over this article. But Cincinnati and Memphis are feverishly improving their facilities to join the P5. North Dakota would have to add a million more people, build a 50k domed stadium in Fargo, and upgrade NDSUs look from a penal institution to an academic one. Miami of Ohio was often considered a Big Ten candidate by sportswriters in the 1970's because of their record, but never seriously considered by the BIG. http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/100365/ou-president-boren-puts-possible-big-12-expansion-back-in-news

UNDBIZ
The Big 12 would never lower themselves to taking a team straight from FCS. They'll poach from a G5 and the G5 may be interested in Fu. Good for them to get themselves mentioned in the blog though.

Realistic of not. Truth is they deserve to at least be in the conversation, purely based on success. Reality is conference alignment is much more heavily based on money than success. The Sicatoka
The Big XII added West Virginia. Now they need folks to go with them. Cincinnati and Memphis would make sense to fill in the gap to WVU (the Big XII outlier).

Nebraska returns to the Big 12 (scenario #3). Big 12 picks up NDSU to round out the conference (scenario #1). Wait! I'm not done. B1G then adds UND as a full member to bolster their hockey conference, but also adds the rest of the sports to fill in for Nebraska leaving. Far-fetched, you say? Impossible? Well, probably. But just as likely as the Big 12 adding NDSU.
jdub27
Sure there'd be some additional TV Revenues to help bridge the current $48 million gap between them and Iowa State (lowest budget Big12 team) but I'm kind of thinking that since $25 million of that is in ticket sales/contributions (120% of NDSU's current total athletic department budget) is kind of a gaping wound that has no possible way to be filled.... SiouxVolley
Fresno State is doing a major upgrades to Bulldog Stadium, as is nearly all the MWC. Meanwhile, NDSU can't even sniff a MAC or MWC or even an MVC bid, but their board is buzzing about a Big 12 bid. NDSU should have not done the BSA remodel, but saved it to build a new FB stadium, and used the FargoDome for basketball if there was any hope for FBS from a larger conference. http://www.fresnobee.com/sports/college/mountain-west/fresno-state/bulldogs-football/article25543174.html

darell1976
Maybe its because they were a founding member of C-USA but UNCC's new stadium only holds 15,314 with a record crowd of 16,630. The smallest capacity in the FBS, even smaller than Idaho's Kibbie Dome (listed as 16,000). The smallest capacity stadium in a p5 conference is Wake Forest at 31,500 almost double of NDSU, for those Bison fans that think they are going to a p5 conference may want to look at that, plus the smallest in the Big 12 is TCU at 45,000. Can Fargo build a 45k stadium sure, will they...hell no. G5 conference maybe, P5 conference

Crazy to think the two best teams stadiums in the Big 12 would fit into a game at Texas. That said, I don't really see anyone over there saying NDSU is going to the Big XII, the discussion looks more like if for whatever reason the offer came, what would NDSU need to have done. It's the summertime. Not a whole lot to talk about. For what it's worth, I think if there was only one major school in the state, we'll call it...UNDState.. With 25-35 thousand students.. Could be a Big XII school.
