yzerman19 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 With John Hill? My prediction: tDon and his entire staff will not be back for the 2011-2012 campaign
The Whistler Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 My prediction: tDon and his entire staff will not be back for the 2011-2012 campaign I wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't blame the coaching staff for the record that they have had the last two seasons. I think their failure to compete in much of the season is the reason they should be fired. I expect at least a major shakeup with at least Hill gone. In case nobody got it, the Gophers were a pretty good program until tDon hired his buddy hill.

jodcon Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Nice to see all the kind words on here about Lucia. He has two rings that your coach hak doesn't have, Until that happens, maybe you should take a step back from slaming the guy. It's a lot kinder here than on GPL, who else do you blame for their play the last few years? The players? Lucia and Hill handpicked them, aren't they responsible for the level of play? With UM's hockey legacy they can recruit as well as anybody else in college hockey including us, they just haven't got the job done lately.
Snake Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Was Guentzel the true driving force behind the Gopher success under tDon...makes you wonder I seem to remember hearing that the players liked him, and that he was kind of their liaison to Lucia.

Let'sGoHawks! Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 It is nice to see the gophers lose in the first round again. That program is no longer relevant, they have a long road ahead before they start mattering again. I feel bad for their diehard fans.

That program is no longer relevant, they have a long road ahead before they start mattering again. I feel bad for their diehard fans. I disagree on relevance and time to get back into the upper half of college hockey...they still have a lot of talented players. In fact, they are also a very young team. A good coaching staff could return that program to Frozen Four material in a year. The Gophers have no team identity anymore. That is the problem. They used to be the super skilled, finesse, dominate the special teams, pride on ice...they were what they were and they were successful...every bit as elite as we are or Wisconsin or Michigan or the Boston schools. Their failures have been in trying to be something that they aren't: they aren't tough, they aren't grinders, they aren't underdogs...you have to be what you are and make no apologies.

BobIwabuchiFan Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Handy to have the final five and the frozen four right there in the Twin Cities so Don Lucia doesn't miss them. From the stands. Ouch...that should be a 5 minute Major!!!
Goon Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 My prediction: tDon and his entire staff will not be back for the 2011-2012 campaign I don't know, tDon has a contract worth 250,000.00 just laying around so I don't think the "U" can just afford to fire another head coach.

He has two rings that your coach hak doesn't have, Until that happens, maybe you should take a step back from slaming the guy. Wow there Skippy!!! The last time I checked this was Sioux Sports which is a fan message board for fans of the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux and fan of the various UND sports teams. I dont recall there being a written rule that says we have to talk nice about the Goofs or their hockey coach, just for the record, I think that Donny Lucia and uber buffoon John Hill are doing an awesome job coaching the entitlement team from Minneapolis. There are way more contemptible stuff being written on Gopher Puck Live then on Sioux Sports... Those back to back titles you speak of mean nothing today. Edited March 13, 2011 by Goon 1
MoreSiouxForYou Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 GREAT NEWS!!! I never have to watch Jacob C-Piss play/act like he plays hockey again!! AHH What a nice gift from UAA. Flowers in the locker room may be in order. As for the rest of the team, that is too bad. Lots of talent and expectations. Best of luck in their next adventures.
BobIwabuchiFan Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Let's all be carefull...we don't want them to fire the Mullet and then take Dean away from Nebraska....strategy my friends, strategy.... 1
Wilbur Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Here's a thought. Gino Gasparini was a great coach for the Sioux that won his national championships and was the most important man in Grand Forks while recruiting and coaching great hockey teams. Years later the Sioux are down in the dumps, getting swept at home often during the season, and get some talent that doesn't mesh well and doesn't get the job done. Out goes Gino, in comes Blais with some energy, and two years later, champs. Are we seeing the same thing happening with the gopher program with Lucia that we saw with the Sioux with Gino? The guy has won his national titles, but now has he lost his edge and his desire to win? I mean every coach has a bad season, but I see the Gino and Lucia living kind of the same story. This is just a thought, and opinion. I know they are two completely different coaches. But I thought about this for a while last night....
Knickball2 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 The only Gopher back to backs that mean anything today are the Friday and Saturday losses to UAA, how humbling is is it to get swept by Anchorage. Moron and Gold, the heads must be hanging, hey those losses belong to the players, not just Lucia. 1
The Whistler Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Ouch...that should be a 5 minute Major!!! If I show remorse will I avoid the suspension?

Another parallel could be that both were loyal to their assistant coaches, probably to their ultimate downfall. Gasparini basically had two goalie coaches in Craig Perry and Jim Scanlan. Not saying either of them were bad coaches, but with the name recognition of the program and the head coach, perhaps a defensive specialist or an offensive coach could have been thrown it there.

That program is no longer relevant, they have a long road ahead before they start mattering again. I feel bad for their diehard fans. Most of the 4000 diehards were at Mariucci last night .... but seriously, what a horrendous atmosphere for a proud program. They badly need to reseat Mariucci, and start by creating a real student section (and a larger one). That's what creates the college atmosphere that old folks like me love. Don't expect it to happen .... but when Mariucci gets full, it can get loud and intimidating. Of course, that was 10 years ago.

I have to agree with Goon on this. Macturi will not pull the pin on the contract. By the time they replace the AD it will be too late to do anything about the 2011-12 season. We are stuck with him at least one more year. Hopefully Don will wake up and realize he needs some new assistants if this thing is ever going to get back on track. I doubt he will fire Hill, but he should. Go WCHA in the tourney. Not going to go so far as say good luck to the Sioux, the rivalry won't let me do that.
