brianvf Posted May 5 Posted May 5 And from that article: Quote This success also means UND is playing a waiting game in the search for its associate head coach under new head coach Dane Jackson. The hire will likely come from this group. UND is letting them play out their seasons before proceeding with the process. The best-of-five Clark Cup Final will begin Friday in Waterloo. The latest it could run is May 20. If Oshawa wins the Ontario Hockey League Final, it will advance to the Memorial Cup, which runs through June 1. 1 Quote

If that is indeed how it plays out, that UND wanted Smaby all along, what a massive waste of time & resources for all the other candidates. Just name him already instead of all this posturing. 2 Quote

I don't think anything was a foregone conclusion prior to the job posting ending. They still went thru all the interviews and whatnot. If it is indeed Smaby, there is no posturing, they are just waiting for him to finish his season with Waterloo. They don't want the distraction of that being announced while they are still in their playoff run. And if it is Smaby, I'm wondering / hoping that the McMorrow rumor is also true. 1 Quote

You're probably right, but a new HC already knows what kinds of systems he wants to run & it's a possibility he already knows the candidate who best complements that vision/style. Quote

I think you can narrow it down to Smaby, St. Clair and Trupp. Quote

UND hires UND people. 5his whole process since firing Berry has been a recycling process. Not much to see different so far 3 Quote
