  2. Exactly. for those that were upset about the logo, we could have ended up with something like this. Given the alternative, I am glad SME went with an original looking logo instead of the same bird head logo like this one.
  3. off topic a little, bit this was the scene after the game of the student tailgate lot. I am glad more students are coming to the game, but this is embarrassing.
  4. https://fightinghawks.com/sports/2018/9/20/mascot-info.aspx Mascot Info- The Fighting Hawk A recent arrival to our Grand Forks campus has North Dakota school spirit soaring sky high. Our Fighting Hawk was migrating north when it spied the perfect perch on top of The Ralph. Scanning the locale, the bright green hawk was instantly impressed by the determination and resiliency of University of North Dakota students and athletic teams. Raptors use that same intense determination when stalking their prey and so The Fighting Hawk developed an instant bond with everything North Dakota… and forever pledging lifelong loyalty to our alma mater. Just like the North Dakota faithful, this is one tough and hard-working bird who is ready to team up with all of us to continue building our championship legacy. So, whether on the ice, court or field… the new mascot is prepared to cheer our student-athletes onto victory and see to it that we soar above each and every opponent! More about me! Hometown: Grand Forks, ND Honorary Graduate From: Hawkademy Major: Working on that M.D. (Mascot’s Degree) Relationship status: Single, not looking, in love with University of North Dakota Primary activities: Soaring, perching, hunting and, mostly, cheering on North Dakota! Favorite food: Bison burgers, coyote chowder and jackrabbit jerky Hangouts: North Dakota sidelines, stands, rafters (hawks are drawn to anywhere with a “bird’s eye” view) and especially loves spending time in the kid’s zone Favorite pastimes: Giving high fives, dancing to our fight song and, of course, posing for pictures with fans Study habits: Hits the books at Starcher Hall, regularly frequents IT department to replace missing computer mouse... Most loved holiday: North Dakota homecoming and “Hawk”oween Frenemie: Goldy Gopher; at least we both wear pants. On a personal note: Nothing scares The Fighting Hawk, not snow, ice, lightning or thunder. Especially not Thundar. Follow me! 5. Why do I get the feeling that if/when the students vote on a name, it's going to be "Hawkey." I mean, it's not horrible but seems like they would want a name that is all sports inclusive instead of a name that makes you think of only one sport at UND.
  6. The one thing that we all have is UND Pride. And that goes for its athletic teams as well. Sioux Pride was something we all had. We wore the logo, we chanted the name. Sioux Pride was more than just a nickname for our athletic teams. It was a tribute to the Sioux Nation that still reside in the great state of North Dakota. It stood for something more than just a name to call our teams. When you go from a name as rich in pride and heritage as the Sioux to a name that is generic like the Hawks, it goes without saying that you lose that sense of pride. The same sense of pride and honor just isn''t there with the Hawks name. And that is to be understood. And is exactly why the Fighting Hawks name isn't being overwhelmingly embraced. There wasn't going to be a name that UND fans were going to embrace and have that sense of pride for as much as they did for the Fighting Sioux name. And that is OK. Those that have embraced the Fighting Hawks name aren't trying to tell others that aren't that the Fighting Hawks name is better than the Fighting Sioux name and that you must forget the past, throw all your Sioux merchandise away and fully accept the new name and logo. There is a part of every UND fan that will always have that Sioux pride is us. But that doesn't go away when you cheer for and embrace the Fighting Hawks name. Whether its Flickertails, Sioux, or Hawks, it has always been the University of North Dakota.
  7. Looking at the current ticketmaster map, and assuming the student section is full, I think we definitely be over 10,000 for the game Saturday. The factor that always helps with attendance is the game weather forecast from your seat will be 72 degrees with zero wind!!!
  8. The "no name" crowd finally gets it's win!!!
  9. Wondering why the football standings have teams with conference wins and loses? The conference schedule doesn't start until this week. Those games played between Big Sky schools are technically non conference games. they don't count toward the official conference record. Including them will mess up the standings to what they actually are.
  10. So when are we finally going to see this new mascot? I thought for sure that it would be this weekend at the Homecoming game. Anyone heard any news about when they plan to unveil it?

    2018 Season

Craig Haley's first FCS playoff bracket prediction. Potential tasty matchup in the second round!!
  12. We are 2-1 coming off a road win against a top 5 team. Our one loss is to a top 10 FBS team. After not even receiving votes last week, being at 22 or 23 seems about right. Win the next 2 games to go to 4-1, and we will be right up there ranked in the low teens if not higher. Control what you can control and just win. The polls will work themselves out.
  13. Last years results should have zero affect on this years polls. Unfortunately, that's just the way it works. It is tougher to earn your spot in the polls than it is to lose it.
  14. Bye week? We get one of those during the season?!!
  15. Probably the biggest win in UND history in the D1 era and people are really on here complaining? Yeah we didn’t do much in the second half till the TD drive. But, we were playing arguably the most successful team in the FCS in the past decade not named NDSU. They are the 5th ranked team in the FCS and had a 21 game home win streak. We beat a very good football team on the road. Can we just celebrate for 5 mins before the naysayers come on here diminishing a great win?!!
  16. OK. Now I am curious? Who from your roster got offers from SEC schools? (Not trying to be a jerk. I really am wondering).
  17. Tom Miller monitors this board? Of course he does. Where else does he get his hot sports takes!!
  18. D1 Davidson gave up 698 total yards and 61 points to a D3 team!!! I guess they can be happy with their performance. But I doubt the defensive coordinator for Davidson was expecting numbers even remotely close to that!
  19. Didn't you hear? They were recruited by Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia. But for some reason, they ended up at SHSU!!
  20. Not quite the powerhouse conference like the almighty Southland, but its alright!!
  21. Davidson absolutely destroyed DIII Guilford 91-61!!! Stats are ridiculous! Davidson had 685 rushing yards via the triple option, only passed the ball 8 times, and had 964 yards of total offense!! Insane!! http://www.sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-football/news/college-football-records-news-davidson-guilford-score-stats-video-ncaa-2018/17b7zc11ow6yc17esebvoo29c2
  22. New Frozen Faceoff logo!!
  23. Why would he be mad about Jones revealing to the public he was transferring. People were going to find out anyway. Unless it spoiled his big press conference he was going to have!! If he was truly upset about the entire situation, he should have released the info about him transferring before Jones did.
