  1. Maybe the Engelstad Foundation will donate the remainder of what is needed for Phase 2 and then all will be happy!!
  2. Doesn't this prove the point that the hockey team benefits the most from the Engelstad donations? You don't see a "Let's help Berry" thread on here do you?
  3. So something like this?!!
  4. I think both can be used effectively together. I think the band should be used most of the time. The band is one thing that makes college football great. Hearing the band play after we score or even just briefly after a first down or a big blay is great. Use the music for the intro, on 3rd downs to get the crowd motivated, and between stoppages in play (timeouts/quarter breaks/etc).
  5. NDSU has had "Yell leaders" for years. Something UND needs to have to help organize the students cheering during the game.
  6. "It could be worse" doesn't even begin to describe it!! I apologize for haunting the dreams of all that see this post!!

    2018 Season

Amazing how fast things can change for a team in a season. Last week we were 2-1 coming off a huge upset win of a top 5 team on the road. This week, UND is currently 3 point dogs to 0-4 Northern Colorado.
  8. Look at the other mascots in the sporting world, especially college mascots. They are mostly goofy looking people or animals. And that's the point. If you want really want to rank the goofiest/weirdest/ugliest mascots, our Hawk is definitely way down the list when comparing to what is out there. https://www.google.com/search?q=college+mascots&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi9gvLBpdbdAhVMPN8KHTTAA4sQ_AUIDigB&biw=1280&bih=899
  9. No kidding. I thought it would take longer before we had this many overrated BTHC teams!!
  10. "The obvious choice would have been a return of Thunder the Bleacher Creature. " That's where you lost me!!
  11. For those that don't like the new Hawks mascot.....it could be worse!!!
  12. How often do you see a head coach fire a coordinator in the college football world? I can't think it happens very often.
  13. Buckeyes picked to win the BTHC https://www.uscho.com/2018/09/24/ohio-state-chosen-no-1-in-big-ten-preseason-coaches-poll/ 2018-19 BIG TEN PRESEASON POLL 1. Ohio State 2. Michigan 3. Notre Dame 4. Minnesota 5. Penn State 6. Wisconsin 7. Michigan State
  14. Exactly. for those that were upset about the logo, we could have ended up with something like this. Given the alternative, I am glad SME went with an original looking logo instead of the same bird head logo like this one.
  15. off topic a little, bit this was the scene after the game of the student tailgate lot. I am glad more students are coming to the game, but this is embarrassing.
  16. https://fightinghawks.com/sports/2018/9/20/mascot-info.aspx Mascot Info- The Fighting Hawk A recent arrival to our Grand Forks campus has North Dakota school spirit soaring sky high. Our Fighting Hawk was migrating north when it spied the perfect perch on top of The Ralph. Scanning the locale, the bright green hawk was instantly impressed by the determination and resiliency of University of North Dakota students and athletic teams. Raptors use that same intense determination when stalking their prey and so The Fighting Hawk developed an instant bond with everything North Dakota… and forever pledging lifelong loyalty to our alma mater. Just like the North Dakota faithful, this is one tough and hard-working bird who is ready to team up with all of us to continue building our championship legacy. So, whether on the ice, court or field… the new mascot is prepared to cheer our student-athletes onto victory and see to it that we soar above each and every opponent! More about me! Hometown: Grand Forks, ND Honorary Graduate From: Hawkademy Major: Working on that M.D. (Mascot’s Degree) Relationship status: Single, not looking, in love with University of North Dakota Primary activities: Soaring, perching, hunting and, mostly, cheering on North Dakota! Favorite food: Bison burgers, coyote chowder and jackrabbit jerky Hangouts: North Dakota sidelines, stands, rafters (hawks are drawn to anywhere with a “bird’s eye” view) and especially loves spending time in the kid’s zone Favorite pastimes: Giving high fives, dancing to our fight song and, of course, posing for pictures with fans Study habits: Hits the books at Starcher Hall, regularly frequents IT department to replace missing computer mouse... Most loved holiday: North Dakota homecoming and “Hawk”oween Frenemie: Goldy Gopher; at least we both wear pants. On a personal note: Nothing scares The Fighting Hawk, not snow, ice, lightning or thunder. Especially not Thundar. Follow me! 17. Why do I get the feeling that if/when the students vote on a name, it's going to be "Hawkey." I mean, it's not horrible but seems like they would want a name that is all sports inclusive instead of a name that makes you think of only one sport at UND.
  18. The one thing that we all have is UND Pride. And that goes for its athletic teams as well. Sioux Pride was something we all had. We wore the logo, we chanted the name. Sioux Pride was more than just a nickname for our athletic teams. It was a tribute to the Sioux Nation that still reside in the great state of North Dakota. It stood for something more than just a name to call our teams. When you go from a name as rich in pride and heritage as the Sioux to a name that is generic like the Hawks, it goes without saying that you lose that sense of pride. The same sense of pride and honor just isn''t there with the Hawks name. And that is to be understood. And is exactly why the Fighting Hawks name isn't being overwhelmingly embraced. There wasn't going to be a name that UND fans were going to embrace and have that sense of pride for as much as they did for the Fighting Sioux name. And that is OK. Those that have embraced the Fighting Hawks name aren't trying to tell others that aren't that the Fighting Hawks name is better than the Fighting Sioux name and that you must forget the past, throw all your Sioux merchandise away and fully accept the new name and logo. There is a part of every UND fan that will always have that Sioux pride is us. But that doesn't go away when you cheer for and embrace the Fighting Hawks name. Whether its Flickertails, Sioux, or Hawks, it has always been the University of North Dakota.
  19. Looking at the current ticketmaster map, and assuming the student section is full, I think we definitely be over 10,000 for the game Saturday. The factor that always helps with attendance is the game weather forecast from your seat will be 72 degrees with zero wind!!!
  20. The "no name" crowd finally gets it's win!!!
  21. Wondering why the football standings have teams with conference wins and loses? The conference schedule doesn't start until this week. Those games played between Big Sky schools are technically non conference games. they don't count toward the official conference record. Including them will mess up the standings to what they actually are.
  22. So when are we finally going to see this new mascot? I thought for sure that it would be this weekend at the Homecoming game. Anyone heard any news about when they plan to unveil it?
