Need four forwards and three dmen.
Would be great to fill some of those spots with talented SR/JR portal guys to add experience.

Forwards (11 of 15):
SR - Menghini
JR - Croal, Swanson
SO - Josephson, Kernan, Reschny, Zakreski, Zellers
FR - A.Schultz, B.Schultz, Simpson

Defense (5 of 8):
SR -
JR - Emery
SO - Laurila, Verhoeff
FR - Lindberg, MacKenzie

Goalies (3 of 3):
SR - Sandy
JR -
SO - Spunar
FR - Heil

I get the idea of rounding out the classes but I hoped going to the portal was a smaller part of building the roster.

Klee is a head scratcher to me. He played quite a bit as a freshman, including over older players in the FF. He wasn’t an elite offensive player in Junior either, so I’d be surprised if he expected to be a top six guy in his first few years no matter where he went

Denver had only 2 seniors, mostly juniors and freshman

It will be, but you can't do that in one year when you inherit a roster with 0 incoming junior forwards and 2 junior defense that are pro ready. This freshmen class is a really really good mix of high-end 2 year type guys and great 3-4 year guys. Klee was my least favorite of them so I'm not worried about losing one and keeping Verhoeff, Laurila, Reschny, Ollie, Kernan, Zakreski and Spoon.

Now any of those portal out...then I'll change my tune.

Compare the 2024-25 roster to what I expect for 2026-27 (based on portal entrants) and I only find three names on both lists (Swanson, Emery, Croal).

It just needs a limit of 1 transfer and Freshmen can’t transfer unless cut

That’s tough though, that’s putting restrictions on the player, not the team/coaching staff. Many of the portal entrants are being cut.

I’m all for coaches in any sport can’t leve to another school unless their current contract is over. If the coaches go to the pros they can’t come back to the NCAA for 4 years.

I’m even for a post season band for taking a call from and “advisor” before the portal opens and the player naming to sit out a season or half a season for tampering.

I expect recruiting to have a two year reset because of the CHL and the NCAA teams need to be more transparent with the CHL so the player get their commitments out earlier instead of making it a secret.

On a recent podcast, David Carle even joked about the lunacy of the current thousand dollar fine for tampering and how schools can more or less budget for that fine. Lol

A guy wonders aloud without truly ever knowing the number of kids that were given their walking papers in their year end evals.  I mean a kid like Engel for UND for sure due to the numbers game.  I'm sure a few more of the gopher kids with the new regime coming in.

Reschny confirmed back for next year

Great news.
Just need a few more confirmations and things will start to take shape.

For portal D - Bushy from LSSU, Loftus from SCSU, and Neumeier from Colgate seem like nice targets.
For portal F - Hall from SCSU, Magnussen from BSU, Wiebusch from PSU, and Muthersbaugh from Union would be excellent.

Looks like Bushy to BGSU, so he's off the list.

Good luck trying to prove that.

The disappointing thing about losing Strathmann & Jubenvill is that it usually takes until the junior season for a defenseman to start coming into his own at the NCAA level. UND invested 2 years into them, only to have them leave (or be shown the door), right at the time they could be a big benefit to the team their junior & senior years. Now they will take their experience & maturity to another competitor.

It's difficult to win titles with a young backend, regardless of how talented they are. And backfilling with portal players can work, but it can also backfire: you know what you've got with your players leaving, but the ones portaling-in are an unknown commodity. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

No sense in developing talent but not retaining it when you need it the most: their junior & senior years. May not be much room for Strathmann & Jubenvill at a blue blood school (not sure they'd care to go to BU considering the state of that program), but they could thrive & see a lot of ice time at a really good school like WMU, Quinnipiac, Duluth, etc.

Schloss with Juby headed to Omaha.  He will get to play a ton of minutes there.

Can’t fault him for that. Hope he becomes a regular there.
