That’s the worst part of this setup. did the Big Ten change their post season tournament format? They still have one weekend left of the regular season, so their conference tournament is only 2 weekends, as opposed to our 3. But i thought the Big Ten used to have a 3 week tournament, because I seem to remember there was a team that lost their quarterfinal series but was still an at large bid, meaning they didn’t play for a couple weeks until their NCAA game. 1 Quote
SIOUXELEVENS Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Why don’t they play the semifinals at the same venue on Friday and championship on Saturday , just like the final five was 3 Quote

Not unlike how after the Fargo Screwjob Duluth and OSU played in an empty arena. 1 Quote
Dustin Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Looks like the Big Ten has mid-week, single game quarterfinals. So, it only shaves off a few days of a team not playing if they happen to lose their quarterfinal game but still eligible for the NCAA. 1 Quote

My first thought looking at the new format. Yikes that’s a long time between games. Even losing in the semifinals leaves a an additional week gap from previous years. 1 Quote
Quinn Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago As an Omaha fan I'm embarrassed by our Manitoba rejects we have on our team. They decided to Goon it up against miami last night. I wish they would fire Gabinet but the university is too cheap to spend any money. Hope you see some of you in Vegas! 1 Quote

Is it time to get rid of conference tourneys? too long and drawn out a sub 500 team could get hot and get in the ncaa tourney and bump a deserving team out which makes no sense Quote

The cinderella teams add excitement and make the bubble sweat. If you are good enough to run the conference tournament you should probabaly get a spot in the NCAA Tourney. 4 Quote

I guess it depends on if you were a deserving team all year long, one hot goalie, one missed penalty, too many variables and you get bumped Quote
Dustin Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I've been looking at the formats for the other conference tournaments: As aforementioned, the Big Ten plays another weekend of regular season series, then single-game quarterfinals mid-week, then the semi-finals and championship are at home sites of the higher seeds. The CCHA uses the same format and schedule as the NCHC. Atlantic Hockey actually starts their playoffs this upcoming Wednesday, which serve as play-in games to the quarterfinals, so they have 4 rounds of playoffs. Games are played at home sites of higher seeds. The ECAC is similar to AHA in that they have play-in games to the quarterfinals, but those games are next weekend, not mid-week. They accomplish this by hosting the semi-finals and championship on the same weekend at a neutral site (Lake Placid), much like all conferences used to do. And lastly, Hockey East still has another weekend of the regular season, then mid-week play-in games to the quarterfinals, then single-game quarterfinals at home sites, then the semi-finals and championship at the TD Garden in Boston. I don't know if any one of these formats is inherently better than any other. A lot of it has to do with how many teams are in the conference and their proximity to a good neutral site venue. It would be nice to whittle down the conference playoffs to 2 weekends. It just seems odd that a conference tournament needs to take longer than the NCAA tournament. Maybe reduce the number of teams that make the conference tournaments? It would place more emphasis on the regular season if only semi-finals and championship games were played. Quote

Just go back to the final five format once we have 10 teams and play the tourney at the Ralph. No one will take issue with that 😁 1 Quote
