brianvf Posted Tuesday at 06:01 AM Posted Tuesday at 06:01 AM Big series coming up this weekend. CC has been struggling this season, but can still put in a good result from time to time...they beat UMD earlier this season and took DU to OT. Mbereko has been more "human" this year, but can still steal some games, I'm sure. Time to avenge our last series down in The Springs in Feb 2024, where UND was swept 6-2 and 7-1. Ouch. It'll be nice having all the guys back...hopefully we see some nice jumps in the 2nd half from the boys that participated in the WJC and Spengler Cup. 1 3 Quote

Wanted to stay positive about that season after the sweep but in the back of your mind it was concerning how easy we were to beat. Quote
atxsioux Posted Tuesday at 02:49 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:49 PM 2nd half jump candidates: Kernan - he's really started to come on as of late. Seems like he's adjusted to the pace now of college now and feels comfortable making plays at the right time. Reschny - he maybe played slightly too much on the edge in that WJC semi-final but loved his aggression with taking the puck to the net and not deferring. Based on what he's done in the past year during U-18s, WHL playoffs, and now the WJC, he's not afraid of the moment. 3 Quote

fightingsioux4life Posted Tuesday at 04:09 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:09 PM If we follow the old formula of split on the road and sweep at home, we'll be in a great position for the postseason. 1 Quote
Godsmack Posted Tuesday at 05:20 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:20 PM I am by no means an insider or wired in with the CC hockey program but at the season ticket holder fan fest back in September, I visited with coach Mayotte and asked him about their success against UND two seasons ago, particularly the series at Robson. He talked about how they had success zeroing in on Blake. Fast forward to this season and we’re talking largely different personnel for both teams so can’t really compare the two series other than I wouldn’t be surprised if Mayotte tries to employ a similar strategy that the Mercyhurst coach used last weekend. But moreso, try bottling UND up in the neutral zone and creating turnovers and then rushes off those turnovers. He had success doing that against UND in the series at Robson two seasons ago. 2 1 Quote

This UND team will be harder to shut down given all our depth at forward. But like any conference opponent, you can never underestimate your opposition. 1 Quote

Godsmack Posted Tuesday at 05:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:27 PM If I recall, just prior to that road series two years ago, UND was coming off what might have been their best weekend of hockey at home against Denver. It felt like DU and UND were in a track meet that weekend, which worked to our favor but then CC employed quite a different strategy that we just couldn’t seem to adjust to. Does that sound about accurate to others here? 2 Quote

Almost a perfectly coached and executed weekend. A lot of folks were saying that UND got goalied a little bit by the Tigers, but the right team got swept out of the building 2 Quote

I don't see this UND team having the same results. I think 4 out of 6 points is very doable. Quote

I was in The Springs for that series nearly 2 years ago. It sucked! Their rink isn't too bad, except for the steps. They are so steep that you almost need to crawl up and down them. Quote

I’ve been told that they ran into many cost overruns and started cutting corners on some things. They missed an opportunity to put in an escalator in the main lobby area where the stairs go up to the arena. Overall, I love the design with the open air concourse and the size is perfect for a student body of that size. No GA seats however making it difficult to try and get local townie support (only way to get tickets if you’re not a student or season ticket holder is via the secondary market on Ticketmaster). Godsmack Posted yesterday at 02:49 AM Posted yesterday at 02:49 AM If anyone’s going to be at the series this weekend, ping me. I’ll be there decked out in UND green (wife will be in gold and black; can’t convince her to cheer for the good guys!). I’ll be the guy in a sling (dislocated my elbow in a beer league game three weeks ago; coincidentally on the ice at Robson Arena). 2 Quote

Are they ever going to shrink the Broadmoor to NHL size? It would be a good arena for a regional again. I saw something a while ago about a ECHL team moving in there. Quote

Every graph on metrics I’ve seen shows CC is a much better team than their record shows. Most of the teams in the same areas of them on those charts are top-15 in the NPI so Hopefully they don’t “find” their metrics this coming weekend. 1 Quote
