Scratch Posted Thursday at 01:29 PM Posted Thursday at 01:29 PM Not feeling good about this weekend, I’ll guess loss and tie. Duluth will probly only need to play well on one side of the puck to win. For us, defense will have to refrain from their tendency of getting burned in transition all night long, which I think they are capable of. But to get a win I think the offense will also have to score 3 goals, and I have no confidence in that. Duluth has a top-5 looking first line and we don’t have a first line Quote
Popular Post InHeavenThereIsNoBeer Posted Thursday at 02:15 PM Popular Post Posted Thursday at 02:15 PM Could have avoided all that flood stuff in '97 if we would have had this much sandbagging 7 Quote
RedFrog Posted Thursday at 04:12 PM Posted Thursday at 04:12 PM I'm curious to see how the team responds defensively. Offensively, I would like to see the zone time from Saturday night, but with more opportunities at the net ... which means that guys need to shoot the puck and perimeter shots need to get past the first defender. UMD has only given up more than 1 goal twice in their 8 games. I feel like this series will be like most of our games this year ... a race to 3. Quote
atxsioux Posted Thursday at 05:40 PM Posted Thursday at 05:40 PM From watching the highlights of them vs the Gophers I have a hard timing seeing our PK look as passive as the gophers did last weekend. Hopefully we minimize time in the box overall but I think we'll fare better from a PK perspective. I don't think its crazy to say we're the best team by a good margin that Duluth will have played this year as well. We've had some growing pains the past couple of weekends but based on last Saturday (yes it's just 1 game) we applied some good lessons learned with how they defended. Think that's what alot of us have griped about the past few years is not seeing enough improvement to show the team is actually learning from past mistakes. IMO we saw that last Saturday. It'll likely be a split but if this team goes out and makes a statement with 2 wins I won't be surprised either. Quote

The growing pains were inevitable with a new head coach and more than half the roster turned over from last season. October is the month to iron out those wrinkles. Last Friday night was hard to watch, but they did what they needed to do and won on Saturday. I would love a sweep to start the conference schedule, along with the TCoS! 1 Quote

brianvf Posted yesterday at 04:38 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:38 AM https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-entering-weekend-on-eight-game-winning-streak-against-minnesota-duluth Some pretty crazy winning streaks as of late in this series: Quote The Fighting Hawks have won eight in a row and are 12-1 in the last 13 games against the Bulldogs. It matches the longest winning streak in the North Dakota-Minnesota Duluth series since UND won the first 10 meetings between the teams from 1954-59. There have been two other eight-game runs between these teams. Minnesota Duluth won eight in a row against UND from March 18, 2016, to Jan. 20, 2018. UND had an eight-game winning streak over the Bulldogs from Dec. 3, 1999, to Feb. 3, 2001. On Menghini playing his old team: Quote "Anthony is a really competitive guy," Jackson said. "He skates extremely well, has a strong stick and he's physical. I know against us last year, he scored goals and pounded a few guys. We're just talking with Anthony about trying to play his best game. When he's playing his best, he shows he's an effective player in our league. He's a prideful guy and we know he'll be playing his best and be ready to go against his old mates." Also a mention of who will start in net tomorrow...Dane didn't give any hints but it'd be hard to go against Spunar after he pitched a shutout last game. 1 Quote

brianvf Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago Schloss Preview: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/preview-how-special-teams-have-dictated-games-for-und-minnesota-duluth We'll see how UND does against UMD's aggressive PK. If our passing is off, could make for some brutal PP's to watch. Quote It will go against a Bulldog penalty kill that was revamped in the offseason. "We've been super aggressive, especially with our forwards at the top," Minnesota Duluth defenseman Joey Pierce said. "The attitude has been 'be aggressive and make them make a play, force them to make two or three really nice passes before they get a Grade A.'" His prediction: Quote Friday: Minnesota Duluth 3, UND 2 Saturday: UND 2, Minnesota Duluth 1 My prediction...if we hold UMD to only 4 goals total, we sweep. That said, I don't think we hold UMD to only 4 goals. Quote
Wilbur Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I'll say tonight we win 4-2 with a Dylan James ENG, and Saturday the dogs get their revenge with a 2-1 win. Quote
beastandco Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago A split seems likely. UND’s key to winning both nights will be to shut down their top line. Easier said than done. If they do that, they’ll be fine. 1 Quote
RedFrog Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago On paper, this looks to be a great series. Time to see what the boys are made of and will be the most significant indicator to date on whether this will be a transition year or a year that we have a legitimate shot at some post season success. My prediction is that first team to 3 wins each night. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago UMD has gone aggressive up top on the kill? The down low PP guys should get some outnumbered chances by the paint; best be ready (James, Strinden, Rickwood). And I'd put Littler on the card tonight for that reason also. 2 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Simple weekend: Go to the box; get put into a box. Roll four, and few special teams, is the way. 1 Quote
