What is the reason we have to use the grad player with one season left. Clearly head coaches want to prove they made a shrewd move by luring the player. But we need to develop other goalies the coaches selected. We will lose them. He has another year if he wants to use it (redshirted his freshman year). Looks like Homer was doing what lost him the starting job at ASU. Loses his net and give up rebounds in the worst spots. Just stop getting portal goalies they don't really work out like everyone expects. 4 Quote

Continue to struggle in the net with bad rebounds. Got lost in dzone a number of times again. Not many chances offensively from quality scoring areas. I agree. Thought we would see a more desperate team tonight. The amount of power play opportunities they had and you only put up 20 SOG is a bit concerning. Goaltending was really good at times, then not great other times. When we were chasing the game in the third he made about 4 really nice saves or its 6-2. Clarkson is going to bully the heck out of them tomorrow. Credit to them, they wanted it more. Quote

FightingSU Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Gotta lock down passing! This game and against MN. Would be some great shots if they don’t wiff the pass or lose it out of the zone. Just keep being slightly off. Quote

Scratch Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I ask this seriously-Is there a reason on power plays everyone at that the point plays their off side? I think it started with Gaber, which worked for one season then cratered for two years. Why are we eliminating the possibility of one timers? I’d guess there’s about a 50% chance that a loss tomorrow eliminates us from the tournament. Great Quote

It was simple but they could pick corners. All this new powerplay does is play catch with their three guys up top. Verhoeff is a great player but it seems forced to have him at a flank. Quote

brianvf Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Need to salvage a split before UMD comes to town the following week...as they look more legit this year and I don't think our defense is at a point where they can shutdown the Plante line. 1 Quote

Yes, can’t afford to lose another one out east. Thankfully not many teams haven’t been dinged by a few losses and if our league can finish out the non conference strong, we still have the ability to grow while still keeping our head above water. Critical for us to start doing our part, starting tomorrow. 1 Quote

Critical for us to start doing our part, starting tomorrow. I was thinking that as well. There's been so many "upsets" already this year and I think we're gonna keep seeing them with all the new CHL rules and whatnot. So many teams that were ranked high in the polls to start the season have not had an easy beginning to the season. BU is at 2-3-1. Providence 1-2-1. UMN 2-4-1. Maine 2-2-1. And then other teams Miami 5-0-0, PSU 6-1-0, Michigan 7-1-0, UMass 5-1-0, UMD 6-1-0 all have great records to start, but most have played a pretty cakewalk schedule to start the season. Michigan got a loss after they finally played a decent team. I think it's gonna be much harder for a team to really dominate this year like what we saw with WMU last year. We'll see. That said, UND absolutely needs to do their part tomorrow. 4-2-0 sounds a hell of a lot better than 3-3-0. Quote

If it’s a “must win” for us, then a ton of eastern teams are also in that situation, or worse, because their leagues aren’t ripping it up to this point. Not a must win, but need to show major urgency. Like I said before, we still had a lot of chances last year to get in the picture even after seemingly out of it, and our league struggling. So many contenders like Maine,BU, BC, Quinnipiac, Providence, etc. with 2 losses with their leagues behind the Big Ten and NCHC so far. Going to be a bigger logjam this year, because I really have no idea how the two top leagues will play out in conference play. Plenty of teams that have shown better in non conference play than expected. Quote
brianvf Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/clarkson-takes-series-opener-against-und Quote Forward Ryan Botterill also had three assists for the Golden Knights, who beat UND for the first time in program history. They were previously 0-7. Well that sucks. Quote "I didn't think we started on time," UND coach Dane Jackson said. "I thought getting behind made us chase the game. Then you're forcing things and squeezing sticks. I didn't think we executed very well. Overall, we weren't sharp enough early. Then we got behind and that makes it hard to play that way against a team that clogs it up quite well." Quote In January 2019, UND traveled to western New York for a nonconference series against Canisius. The Fighting Hawks lost twice. Those losses kept UND out of the NCAA tournament. A year ago, UND traveled to central New York for a nonconference series against Cornell. The Fighting Hawks lost twice, dropped out of the top 15 in the Pairwise Rankings and never recovered. They missed the NCAA tournament for a second time in three years and made a coaching change. UND (3-2) now needs to ensure the same doesn't happen in upstate New York. While the season is just three weeks old, the series finale at 7 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Central looms large. Quote

I would say Jackson has a very short leash for using the “not starting on time” phrase because it is his job to make that mantra a thing of the past. Remember we are going to be the team that gets back to old Sioux hockey and always be outworking the other team. Let’s make this the last time we hear that phrase for a good long time. Consistent effort should be a non negotiable, save for college students not being on the same page physically or mentally occasionally. Never should be the whole team being inconsistent with effort. 2 Quote

Hoping we look back on some early year frustration like we did with Hakstol and think “where was that team earlier”. That figured to be the scenario we would need going into the year, and can only hope they can get those critical wins when they need them like Hakstol’s teams seemed to do to get into the tournament.
