Premature. Everyone will fight for ice time. EJ will likely pair with Verhoeff. Thankfully we have an extra skater spot. Hopefully nobody bails mid season haha.

I don’t think they’ll put 2 of our right handed defenseman on the same pair.

Yeah offensively he didn’t bring a lo but that wasn’t his job.  EJ without the puck is an unreal defenseman; he is a top 4 guy on this team for shutting down opposing players.

It’s really not that big of a deal. EJ is the perfect athlete to learn to play both sides. NHL loves it.

Surprised he didn't mention the former teammates angle for WHL kids. Manitoba's goalie was teammates with Reschny and Verhoeff in Victoria, and Dawson Pastrnak played with them in Victoria as well as with Zakreski in Portland. And this is just from names I recognized. 

P.S. Johnny Hooker sounds like a name from a mobster video game. Props to him for using Johnny.

I know it was just exhibition but not sure how you sit Laurila after that game. His breakouts and transition were so good. Seemed like every time he touched puck it was tape to tape going the other way in a hurry.

Exactly.  Laurila was terrific....but go easy my friend or you'll be accused of going on a rant and/or having a pulse of the team. No subjective opinions allowed here.

While I definitely saw the potential with Laurila, I thought he looked shaky to start but he’ll get better. Said it already but I’m just thankful we have a more veteran group that can allow him to learn without playing 20 minutes a game as was the case last season.

And Engel was solid as well. He was expected to be more of a depth guy, but he had a very good game last night. Didn't see this one coming.

Really good point. Strathmann was playing with way more confidence than last year…Laurila has a ton of upside

Strathman was a menace on the blue line breaking guys ankles. Gave me flashbacks to chay genoway. Not sure how he sits.

I wasn’t able to watch a lot of the game last night. Who was on the power play units? Did Verhoeff get any power play time?

It seems like the Swanson-Reschny-Kernan line has some good chemistry.

Swanson looks like a different player. Mengini plays with a lot of heart. This will be a fun group to watch.

No mention of #8 here?  I thought Josephson really stood out tonight.  Hard skater, bigger stature, tons of compete,  I really look forward to this entire roster, but he just stood out a little more tonight.

Any thoughts on the much-anticipated Verhoeff? A lot of hype on him this off-season, but not much talk of him in this thread.

He can dangle which is crazy for his size.  He had his stick up for some one timers on the PP, one in particular that Zellers should have passed. Finally got one at the end of the game and hit the post. He looks very impressive for a barely 17 year old. That being said he made a couple turnovers but nothing egregious. Last night felt like there wasn’t enough pucks to go around. A lot of weapons, it’ll be up to the coaching staff to figure out how they all work best together.
