Parlay FB success into increased notoriety for the school, increased exposure meaning increased donations. Move all-sports to MW. Have your athletic department become a real player on the national scene (see Boise State). Move to the Pac 12. I believe their goal is to be a mid-major power. If they really catch lightning in a bottle, the academic side (enrollment, donations) will follow.

Pardon me while I choke on my Bison burger. How many people other than SU grads between the Mississippi River and the West Coast give a rats behind about NDSU in anything athletic or academic for that matter.

They may have more football games on tv but who is watching those games

majority will be the 2 teams playing , Alabama fans don’t give a !@#$ about watching bison football on tv

many fcs teams are bragging about their tv schedule too

if it’s bison on one station and notre  dame on another which station gets the eyeballs nation wide

nation wide coverage doesn’t mean that game is on in every market

Ironic how they thump their chest about football as their student attendance is in a death spiral. For example, they used to have a very strong pharmacy program but it is declining just like their overall enrollment.

He literally stated in the column that the idea had zero chance, in hell to come to fruition.  You missed the part were he was basically baiting UND and SDSU fans, because that's what McFeely does.  He hit a bomb with that one, too.  I have no idea what people who read his sh*t can't wrap their mind around the fact that everything he writes is strictly just to get a reaction - he's a columnist, not a reporter.  That's literally his job.

I seriously have no clue why people read his !@#$, it's optional, especially other fan bases.  But he gets out of it what he needs too.

"....  The Bison football team is economic development. Let’s roll with it. This idea will go about as far as my 59-year-old right arm can throw a football these days — nowhere."  He was spoofing the idea of tourism dollars from the State.  He was serious about funding from other sources.  I didn't see any baiting for SDSU fans, but he was directly comparing funding sources for both of the State schools, which is why UND fans should pay attention.

Next paragraph

"The point is NDSU athletics has been underfunded by the state for years. ..."

So, the real message from the article is that NDSU Athletics is underfunded.  Look at NDSU compared to UND.  Look at NDSU compared to other FBS programs.  And I can't tell you how many times I have heard this statement from the Bison faithful and numerous other Bison media figures (Sam Herder has this topic on speed dial for an annual article).  And they always point to the USA Today database as the primary reference.  Which is why my original response to the article was that this is a false equivalency because of differences in Title IX approaches and charitable gambling proceeds.

Example:  https://herosports.com/fcs-football-top-teams-least-subsidized-bzbz/

by Sam Herder

So you can say it's McFeely nobody should listen, but everyone can see if NDSU is going to be successful at the FBS level they are going to need additional government support from the school, students and local government (Fargodome).

FYI - They are already talking about the need for upgrades at Fargodome for expanded FBS coaching offices.  Next, it is Fargodome upgrades needed for additional revenue generating opportunities and expansion to support better FBS opponents.

the pac12 that boise wanted in so badly over the years isn't the pac12 they got into.....

the MWC that ndac wanted in so badly over the years isn't the MWC they got into.....

after Gloria wet the bed with her emails AF, UNlv, new mexico and maybe NVreno are all gone in 5 years...

the mwc3.2 will be a combo of what's left of he current MWC minus the above 3, the top of the BSC and the top of the mvfc...

only problem/scary thing is how much will ndac vote to keep und out of the MWC 3.2...with their 5 year head start (a quote about being 5 years ahead of the other regional schools was mentioned by larson when asked if all the western conferences get reconfigured in 5 years....again)

I don't see UND moving to FBS any time soon and I'm just fine with it.    Unless NDSU becomes the next Boise State I have no problem with them in the MWC.    They can live in their little world and we'll live in ours and do just fine.

Boise State has over 25000 students and growing. Idaho one of fastest growing states in population. Different scenario.

I wasn't implying that NDSU would be the institution that Boise State is, I just meant that there's always the remote possibility they get some football love like Boise got.   I don't see that happening either and I hope not but who knows.   For now, who cares?

First paragraph: 'Now that the anticipated outrage from the usual suspects using the expected cliches is finished (for now), let’s talk about the North Dakota State football program in the real world."

and later: "This idea will go about as far as my 59-year-old right arm can throw a football these days — nowhere.."

Literally, reeled you all in.  Gotta admit, it was funny thought.

I always questioned that. Maybe they're dropouts from the paint and coatings chemistry program.

I would hope they are on something, they are paying through the nose for it.

Could you imagine paying that bill and not getting anything in return? Even one of their mouth pieces thought it was crazy that Sac St would agree to that sort of deal. And then NDSU goes and does the same thing while writing a huge check on top of it...

This is an example of something I would worry about for UND. Another example. They are going to leave the Summit with zero notice once they can fund other sports at MW level. The more pain they can cause to other schools the better. Again, NDSU plays to win.

This can come in different ways, but what I'm really looking for is an example moving forward where UND has a pulse. Ambition. An example for athletics I've used is being the first FCS team to add scholarships above 63. Academic / Enrollment - things are going well, but they can change quickly. I really hope UND is looking into how NDSU matching the State of Minnesota's North Star program has worked out. Clearly, NDSU is still treading water, but how many students are choosing NDSU > UND simply because of that? Could UND really cause some pain if they also followed and matched the North Star program? UND has this incredible advantage with its Aviation program. 66% of its students are from ND / MN while 90% of NDSUs are. They could really cripple NDSU if they played to win in MN (things are fairly even in ND).

Disagree completely with your McFeely take. He knows exactly what he’s doing and it’s what @FSSD is talking about. We just witnessed it for the last 5 years with although calling it a “moon shot”, his non-stop FBS talk.

Add this to the list of things I’m incredibly jealous of NDSU for. Reporters that go to work for the best interests of the University. It matters.

But, but we are told they don't do it for the university's benefit?  Completely on their own with no dialogue between NDSU staff at all.  Just for funsies and clicks.
