Popular Post dagies Posted Saturday at 07:54 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 07:54 PM Thanks to whoever mentioned the Live in Five podcast with Jordan Schmaltz and Gage Ausmus. After listening I'm all in on giving Jackson a shot. They were clear that an assistant can change the tone of a program once they become head coach. Also, that Jackson is best positioned and committed to instill true Sioux hockey tradition in incoming players, and expect all players to live up to the expectations. They also said he's got the smarts to plan game strategy and make in-game adjustments. And let's not forget the guy has toiled away waiting for his chance. We'll never get anyone more committed. Does that guarantee success? No. But I would rather ride or die with that coach than an unknown from out of the area. Doesn't mean they couldn't be great. Just that's how I'd make my choice. 5 Quote

Cratter Posted Saturday at 07:57 PM Posted Saturday at 07:57 PM Dane and Herter are like the same guy. Same age. Same college. Both perpetual assistant coaches. Quote

Also interview current staff because you dont want them to be offended. Dont want them asking why they werent even considered for the position? In theory, it sounds like its gr8 thing to do. Reality is, they’re still offended. They see right through the process. Doesnt make them feel any better. Go sioux!! Quote

Hiring Jackson will also lead to most uncomfortable questions at the press conference on Monday. No one will ask those questions. It's a press room of 5 reporters. They will all turtle up & ask about 'changing the culture' and 'what players are leaving' or 'how will you keep the current recruits'? 2 Quote

As a fan base we do travel well and can get loud. Our band is great. I don’t believe we generate the same energetic atmosphere we once had. Yzerman19 points out what a difference the fans can make to create an energetic atmosphere and he is correct. Penn State’s entire fan base knows their cheers. Same for University of Wisconsin fans. At a Regional final in Madison years ago, their entire fan base, including the “cotton tops” knew their cheers. Wisconsin also has a number of songs in addition to their fight song and Alma mater and they all know them. They play them at graduation, weddings, reunions etc. We don't have that right now. We had the “Snake Pit” in BB many years ago, we had the “Farce” for a number of years. If you sit next to those fans having beers, a lot of their stories involved their shenanigans. This group of students can get together in 15-20yrs and reminisce about yelling “he sucks sh..”. We older fans are just as guilty. The best fans don’t need to wait until we are back at the F4. We need to do the little things as fans that might fire up a team or impress a recruit and their families. We need to dig a bit deeper for our favorite sports do we don’t loose key players cuz of NIL, and can afford to incentivize if necessary, key recruits to come here. This is my one major disappointment when I'm fortunate enough to return to Grand Forks for football or hockey. Just seems that no one know how to really have fun at the games. I'm all for shenanigans and making things fun. Got a few stories from the 70's and early 80's I could share. Good old times. 1 2 Quote

Teams should schedule Air Force just so you get Frank to speak at the Booster Lunch on Fridays! His kid's were also there that day and he was talking about his days on the UND staff and said to his kids(and everyone in attendance) something to the effect of "you kids weren't born yet, that was when your mom and I were still just practicing having kids" 1 5 Quote

Go to YouTube and watch his post game comments about being Tee’d up by the refs up in Denver and how there are a couple things in life he’s never encountered-the Easter bunny, Santa, and an official who’s admitted he was wrong. Classic! 2 Quote

crb1 Posted Saturday at 08:55 PM Posted Saturday at 08:55 PM I’d be ok with either Jax or Herter. It may come down to who can stop the exit of players or recruits from leaving in large numbers and I suppose a case could be made that Jax might prevent a mass exodus more so. Quote

What about one as HC and other as assistant? I’m not sure if Herter would make a lateral move, but maybe for his alma mater. Quote
crb1 Posted Saturday at 09:12 PM Posted Saturday at 09:12 PM I don’t think Herter would be an assistant here. He would only come as HC. My guess anyway. 1 Quote
