I think they have guys that have skill without a doubt, but to me, they are all about going north and outworking their opponent. That's not OMac.

Omac goes north really well when he gets to play as a center. He's never going to outmuscle someone and will likely turn over the puck in a corner, but he can float really well through the neutral zone with the puck on his stick.

We'll see if Ferschweiler can get OMac to quit curling just inside the blue line then turning the puck over with numbers going the other way.  Very talented, but I think it will be very interesting to see how OMac and Whitelaw fit into that system.  I think their powerplay will benefit quite a bit, but we'll see if Fersch can get them to buy in to the rest of the game.

is this anti "get pucks deep"?  I generally agree with you, just always looking to learn.

There’s definitely a time and place to “get pucks deep”…and certain lines need to play that way. But skilled, possession, type plays want to hold onto pucks to make plays. Interchanges, scissors, etc all work even better as you don’t unnecessarily create battles…and the good guys retain possession.

Last year, no matter which line had the puck they were chucking it into a corner….again creating more battles.

I guess when I say "goes north" I mean it like he's getting into there and being physical. You're saying he gets into the zone well and definitely agree with that. Two sides, same coin 🙂

@Godsmack Mannino leaving causing everyone to leave once they started to get better

Full disclosure: I don’t have any special insight to confirm if that’s the case but I do know that he was recruited to come play at CC by Mannino so certainly that could have played a role in it.

Also, at the CC season ticket holder fan event last September, Kris Mayotte openly talked about how Mbereko had received multiple offers to go pro last summer but turned them down to come back and play one more season at CC. Well, things didn’t really go as planned this year, wondering if his value dropped given the relatively poor season he had. So, perhaps he has decided to return for his senior year and Musser figured he’d go someplace where he can have a shot at being the starting goalie.

Could we see Musser land at another NCHC school? Perhaps Denver? Matt Davis is a senior and I’m not sure if Freddie Halyk is considered the heir apparent or not.

They have a guy on the U18 (I expect him to play a year of juniors) and one in the QMJHL that is coming in next year. Their #3 is supposed to be good too.

Would expect him back at a Minnesota school, whether that be in the NCHC or CCHA.

My wife and I went out to Omaha for the CC series and got to visiting with Musser’s parents and granddad, nice folks. They mentioned they were from south central Minnesota so yah, I could totally see him wanting to play close to home.

Last two times Mannino has left recruits have left because of him.

I still think CC should have played Musser more than they did. It showed at the end of the season Mbereko needed rest.

It’s 100% why. Swanson, Omac, Perron…incoming Zellers. They want to hold onto pucks..not constantly have to win 50/50 battles. Winning battles is important, but if we already have the puck, keep it.

Well if they actually did keep the puck instead of turning it over as often as they did, perhaps we would also have been better off. ;)  We will see if blind, behind the back drop passes directly to the opposing team will work better elsewhere. Agree 100% though that trying to turn smaller, high skill guys into forecheckers is a recipe for failure.

Southern Minnesota, Sherburn to be specific. Small farm town right off I-90. I love seeing hockey players from rural areas in the States make it big, considering that's extremely rare in USA Hockey history. Guys like Musser, Hobie Hedquist, Brody Lamb & Jaxon Nelson all from the sticks, in what you wouldn't consider traditional "hockey country" Minnesota.

Agreed. Musser needed playing time and he should’ve been used early in the season during CC’s weak non-conference schedule.

Sounding like Menghini visit went great, hopeful he commits tomorrow.

That'd be a good get if he joins the team.
One of the better remaining forwards in the portal group.

Why in heaven's name would I spend any time whatsoever reading his past posts?

I'm curious what the deal is with Spicer going to ASU.   I know he was a UND commit years ago and was at Duluth at one time.   So we didn't want him or he didn't want us?   I'm guessing the first.   I haven't paid a lot of attention to hockey, sorry.
