Anyone see berrys comment about our guys have done a pretty good job of keeping us in the playoff race

we aren’t even in the playoff race wtf

Well yeah but are you taking into account the injury situation (Kaleb Johnson out for the year for example!) and no puck luck again this year? Keep the faith, Berry's long run of bad luck is over after this year!

We know that Berry, Sather and Bernhard all have contracts that expire after the 2025-26 season. Chaves contract is also done in spring of 2026. Is there any significance if we don't hear anything on the Sather and Bernhard front? Or is there no correlation at all with what will happen to Berry? Clearly, you can't extend any of them. In the portal era, it takes a lot of the pressure off "lame duck" year. I find it hard to believe nothing will happen to any of the three.

Let's subscribe to the theory that Berry is back, regardless. Would we see coaching changes to the assistants? If it's Simpson, I'm guessing that would be incredibly unpopular. Berry pushing the easy button again. What if it's Jackson? KG? I would feel a bit better if it's Jackson. Reason being, I want to get as far away from this era of UND hockey as possible. Worst case scenario being, all coaches return, slight bounce back year, Berry steps down next year, but Jackson is named the successor. Really, really hope someone is willing to write the check after this year. We need a hard stop in the worst way.

Smaby seems to be a popular pick. How about this situation. Jackson is let go, Smaby is hired as Associate head coach. Berry coaches one more year and then Smaby takes over.

Why? Are we complacent not having home playoffs and making ncaas

Unfortunate that we happen to be fans of the one athletic department where wins and losses happen to be irrelevant to a certain degree. To be fair, not all sports will be treated the same. Clearly, based on funding / fan support / facilities, ect. The only sport on campus I'm genuinely shocked that they let get to this point, is hockey. Beyond comprehension to me. Just crazy. Miss the NCAAs two out of three years. Run it back!

Depressing to get caught in YouTube hell watching older UND post season runs under Hak.  Man those teams had such a different vibe than what we see now.

It's also shocking that with the alumni base / incredibly passionate fanbase, that there isn't a handful of people with relatively deep pockets that have had enough. 36-million-dollar budget and we're talking less than 750K to clean up this mess. Save the hockey program. Bridge too far.

The coaches aren’t going anywhere.

Why? Because all those programs are sol-id? :silly:

Their contracts expire after next season. They have clearly not earned long contract extensions. Why should they get a de facto lifetime contract?

This entire athletic department needs a hard reset. Not more of the same.

Denver has won 3 NCAA titles since we won #8 in 2016. Just saying...........

Good news, nobody knows. At least those that are posting on here. You can go back 4-months and read the Fire Bubba thread. Exact same stuff. A lot of it can't happen, because of the contract. We'll see. Find it hard to believe no changes will be made.

So SS.com has what about 100 active participants at any given time and thar might be high, is there as much outrage and uproar outside of SS.com?

Their contracts expire after next season. It isn't like the Bubba situation where he had just received a contract extension 9 months earlier.

I imagine the basketball coaches don't make anything close to what Berry makes.

It is entirely possible changes are being worked on behind the scenes. There were no hints of the Bubba resignation before it happened.

This is the most outrageous thing about Chaves.

When I say UND athletics is being run like a high school, this is what I am referring to.

If wins and losses don't matter, then you are running your programs like a high school.

That might be very awkward based on the differing philosophies of aggressiveness.  Smaby just sits a year and waits until he can implement his systems might not be something he wants to do, being he probably gets paid pretty well right now.  If you're going to overhaul it, just start fresh with someone, rather than them having to stay tight-lipped waiting in the wings.

Pull the bandage off at one time , time for a fresh start. He had his ten years , thank you for that now time to pass the baton , ps don’t hit the the new coach in the head with it.

Just do a clean reset. That is the best way to make a change at the top.

For those worried about a big drop off if there’s a coaching change, it’s a reasonable concern - but some optimism to be gained by Mankato being in 15th (3 spots ahead of UND) after being absolutely decimated from the inside by Hastings departure. They managed to bounce back, beat UND, and be a bubble team with significantly limited resources, weak conference, and without any of the brand/legacy UND has to work with.

The situation a new coaching staff would be walking into if handled correctly wouldn’t be dire. We’ve got bigger problems if elite coaches aren’t interested in UND and/or we settle for whatever alum has good connections and right timing.

The UND hockey program emulates itself like an NHL program/team if that is the case with all the resources UND has Berry would have been fired a few years ago with the lack of post season success.

With how the NHL works he would have been fired the 1st or the 2nd time he missed the NCAAs (2-3 years).
