The Illinois state game was pretty bad.. quite a few drops etc.. but I think the effort was there the other games.. just turns out we arent very good. I observed less focus and energy / enthusiasm from the team as the 5-game losing streak progressed. Hard to say the team wasn’t very good when they started 4-1 including a win vs a playoff team. Everything starting going downhill after NDSU game, and especially after Youngstown State game. Football has been and always will be a game of momentum, and I’m afraid the current ol’ ball coach ain’t got any of that mojo left Quote

The beauty of command: It's all owned by the commander, good or bad. He owns a BSC title; he owns turning 4-1 to 5-7. I believe Bubba had too much Bama in him to foresee the fallout. His flaw is too much pride in the program and himself. That's actually an admirable flaw don't you think. 2 Quote
UND1983 Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Interesting: #FCS Prairie View A&M announced it will not renew the contract of football coach Bubba McDowell. He was 17-18 in three seasons, leading the Panthers to the SWAC championship game in 2022 and '23, then going 5-7 this year. Quote

Expecting a coach at a high level to be able to look in the mirror and give up doesn't align very well with the skills that made them the head coach to begin with. Barring a season like this most recent collapse, I would guess most head coaches have a drive/desire to fix this. This is also why the AD has to have a brain and it cant be a friend group at the top. The blame for the current season is 100% on the headcoach.. His contract situation, the undeserved extension, bad buyout and him being around next year is 100% on the AD. 3 Quote
Hawkster Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I may be wrong but as far as I can tell, no 7-5 team made the playoffs this year, so even if we win the YSU and ISUb games, we still come up one short. Still no excuse for this. Quote

Still wants him to step down. Fair. Was an honest question as I genuinely couldn’t tell if it was a serious post or sarcastic or what. Quote

Popular Post SiouxFan100 Posted December 1 Popular Post Posted December 1 I would like to thank Bubba for representing UND. You can tell he loves our University. I am glad he is staying on in a different role. 1 4 Quote
TwamleyShuffle Posted December 2 Posted December 2 My favorite Bubba moment was destroying NDSU last season. Never cried after a college football game until that game. It simply meant so much to the university to end the winless drought against NDSU 4 Quote

It simply meant so much to the university to end the winless drought against NDSU Followed up with an embarrassing 27-0 loss the next week at Northern Iowa, to forfeit all momentum, and a 41-17 shellacking at NDSU in follow up in 2024. A lot went downhill in a hurry following that 2023 victory against NDSU, albeit that specific game was a good time. 1 Quote

Popular Post Dustin Posted December 4 Popular Post Posted December 4 Not a Bubba favorite moment, but I have a Roger Thomas favorite moment, based on a story I was told, but I wanted to know if someone could verify that it actually happened. Supposedly, this is how the story goes: a Thomas-coached team beat someone they were not expected to. A sports reporter covering the opposing team (the one who was supposed to win but got beat) asked Thomas post-game something like "In your wildest dreams, did you ever think you would win this game?" to which Thomas replied something like "My wildest dreams don't involve football." Anybody have specifics as to what game this was, or even that this exchange even happened? That is such a great response to that question, I've never forgotten that story. 1 4 Quote
