The only way it makes sense to me is if CAR threw a rookie-max ELC at him and started his professional clock (one day closer to NHL free agency).

If he stayed he could sign anywhere summer of 2025 (as he'd be four years after draft year, one USHL, three UND). CAR would not be happy losing that draft pick that way.

Nothing here so far: https://www.capfriendly.com/

If he goes, he goes, and I'll wish him well.  I never fault any of these kids for making decisions about what they think will be best for them.

The only thing I hate is when players leave right before classes start in August (WeatherBYE anyone?). This would not be that situation at all.

If he leaves now, I hope he gets used to being a healthy scratch in the American. If he gets knocked down at this level, imagine what fully grown men at the next level will do to him. Ouch is the word that comes to mind.

Perron will progress.
Schmaltz can't have back-to-back stinker years, can he?
Boisvert and Swanson are ready to step in.

And Bubs pulled a couple rabbits out of his hat last year about this time.

If Blake goes your top should be James Berg Perron next season. Plug it in. Roll with it. It has huge potential.

How many more goals did Jake have than you this past season?

I'm sort of serious when I say, the coaches realizing what Schmaltz is and pulling him from the PP and making him 4C might be the most important off-season move that can happen.

So you see a "Peter Armbrust" role in his future.

Ouch if the news is true about Blake.
Not entirely unexpected but I 100% agree that he could use another year just to physically mature. Just look at that last game against Michigan how many times he got knocked on his butt or off the puck. That was against college players, not AHL/NHL. He has the skills though for sure.
If he does sign, then a portal duo of Wilkie and Wood would be awesome…plus monster years from James & Perron.

You’d think Jason would be in his ear for one more year at UND.

The word you're looking for is: leverage.

He should tell CAR "rookie max, everything" or nothing.

CAR going $916k per for Morrow and SJS giving Graf $950k per tells me CAR's reputation as "frugal" (the nice word) may be accurate.

If he signs with Carolina and doesn't make the team he could end up playing for 1 or a combination of these places next season.

Colorado, springfield, Chicago, Wilkes-Barre or Norfolk. Carolina does not have an AHL or ECHL affiliate.

They are currently working on getting a permanent AHL affiliate.

"The long-term plan is for us to have our own affiliate for the 2024-25 season," said Carolina general manager Don Waddell back in May.

The Chicago Wolves are an unaffiliated AHL team. I now most teams like to have their AHL team nearby so they can more easily manipulate the Salary Cap and per diems.

Not sure how much insider info he has, but Alex Micheletti is pretty much saying Pohlkamp to Denver. Damn! He would have been a great addition to our blueline next year.
