I feel like using the tournament as a measure of success is more based on the past than the future. The expectation for me is to always be in the Frozen Four. Hak did it for years and Berry has struggled. I'm not sure how many times Berry has missed the tourney and usually when he makes it, it comes with an early exit. (This is not meant to be a knock on Berry; not bringing up that discussion) BUT given those kinds of issues over the past several years, its fair for "making the tournament" to be a conversation piece.

I was definitely nervous at the end of last season given who all we were losing, but given our additions ... my expectation remains the same this team needs to make the Frozen Four. I don't think there is any question that UND has had talent, but they seem to have lacked chemistry. Hope they start clicking this year and really hope the new guys jump in and make a splash.

Chemistry is the key! If these men gel as a force all moving in the same direction, supporting each other. They will be successful. Period

So when does Schlossman + the UND men's hockey team announce their new 3rd coach? Thought we'd see something today...

Was hoping Hensler would have waited to commit so a nice defensive coach addition would have enticed him.   Oh well, still a lot of guys that are desirable that will probably be around a little longer.

Pehrson with an A has to be a positive sign, no?

Hope so. But it’s not like there was a wealth of players to choose from.

With the roster turnover, Ness and Kunz were the only other 2 returning upperclassman.  Everyone else is freshman, sophomore, or transfer.

And yet Pyke was the C last year with Alaska.

That’s what caught my eye.

I think Ford wore an A, so there’s precedent. But would have assumed it would have been Pyke.

He picked his up mid-season though, if you remember. I'm pretty sure I've never seen this.

...and could be they wanted a defensive player to have representation in the leadership group.

Correct.  Ford got an "A" in January.

I guess the way I see it, if an underclassmen was not going to wear an "A", then the options were either a Transfer or Ness/Kunz--two players who struggled for ice time and actually played less games last year than the season before.  You want your captains on the ice.  A Transfer "A" just makes a whole lot of sense to me in this scenario.

Pyke or Pehrson with a letter surprises me less than Albrecht.
Here's hoping Albrecht surprises me even more with it and figures out the offensive side (ala Jim Archibald's last season).
C'mon Carson, shock the < bleep > out of me and lead the team in goals. Let's see if my ticker can handle it. :D

I had Gaber, LouieJam, and Schmaltz kinda penciled in.

Very well could be the case.  And there was not a lot of returning players on defense this year, if I recall correctly.

I think you mean no returning players on defense.  :whistling:

"None" is not a lot.

If Albrecht is leading the team in goals at Christmas, you and @AJS need to set up a GoFundMe to buy an AED for my seat at REA. :D

They have medicine for that. :)  :D

I should never be given nitroglycerin in any way, shape, form, or context. Devious mind. @PCM can confirm.

Part of it was shear necessity; per the Herald:

Quote

Berry told the team that with forward Gavin Hain out long term due to a leg injury and defenseman Jake Sanderson heading to the Olympic Games for three weeks, the Fighting Hawks decided to elevate someone to alternate captain to fill in the void.

We were down to Senden and Frisch I believe.

Ford had a way about him, you could tell that he was leader with the way he carried himself. I wish UND could've had him for four seasons.

Actually, it's not all that surprising, Keaton Pehrson wore an "A" last season
