i see the weakest link is still starting in the secondary...unbelievable

“Experience and leadership”

There will be plenty of heartbreak there I’m sure, especially against good teams. We’ll see just how much the simplicity of Schwenzfeier’s new calls help …

If only there was an example of where it took a head coach that long to turn around a program.. Let me think.. maybe even something in the Missouri Valley.. maybe one of our regional historic rivals..  SDSU?

Im not saying Bubba is Coach S.. but FFS lets roll and be a little optimistic on the 2023 Football thread not the fire bubba thread.

Emphasizing exceptions to the rule other than the norm doesn’t help any. Try calling a spade a spade …

We’re all hopeful 2023 will be a great year, but that doesn’t mean concerns can’t be highlighted also.

I don’t know if this posted or not but didn’t want to read all the other stuff.

Im surprised DeMontagnac is listed as a starter. Nice to see McNeal listed as starter. Noticed New Mexico DL transfer not listed on 2 deep but the transfer nose is listed as starter.

Buckner and KK listed at safety, I would assume Fort is in the mix there and wouldn’t be surprised if he starts later this year.

I wouldn’t put nearly any stock into this depth chart. It’s game #1 against a non-scholly non-conference team … things will solidify over the next 2-3 weeks

I am worried about DE and LB size/weight.  Other than Drake this D will get pushed around, forcing the secondary to make too many tackles, then get butchered on PA.  Any OC with half a brain is thinking about their 2 TEs run package vrs our pretty small front.

Yeah, the defensive disaster from 2022 is unlikely to get corrected in just one year. Can’t get a bunch worse, but won’t get a ton better either, especially with in-house promotion.

Offense is going to have to win shoot outs against the good teams on the schedule … again, this is quickly (if not already) becoming the associate head coach’s team …

Wow - after all these years we are still undersized!

But, well, just give Bubba and S&C guru Baukol more time; only had 10 years and they just need 20! We’re halfway there!

The start of football season is always exciting! After seeing the depth chart, It will be interesting to see if scheme and coaching make a big difference. Last year's safety play was the worst it's been in decades and I was surprised to see the same guy back there. I hope coaching matters, time will tell..

The new defensive coordinator was last year’s safety coach …

There will be plenty of heartbreak and explosive plays against good teams, no doubt. Again, pressure is all on Freund’s offense and the experienced O-line to put up 30+ points every single game.

The 360 guys said Beach may play DE at times, particularly if teams try to just drop the plow. Also the FBS transfer has a lot of experience and he has the size needed, they can also put him in at DE if teams are trying to run all over us or going two TE's. Plus we have a dude at NG.....25 lbs heavier than we've had the past couple of years. I think we will be improved on the DL this year.

Fort started for us at Safety last year right? Buckner is starting over him....so I take that as a good sign and Buckner may be who we were hoping he would be.

Excited to see what Pedigo and McNeal can do at ILB.

This interior plan sounds better than being a bunch of turtles on our backs.  All outside LBs 6'1"-6'2" and 220-225 lbs.  Boise, Jacks, Bison, probably smart enough to test our LBs vrs 2 TEs.

Alright. Let’s see how it goes. No one has seen the 2023 team play a game yet. But the past does yield some concerns; you can call them opinions if that makes you feel better.

I’d bet they’re hiding a couple guys for later.

Need to get back to that 2015 LB crew size.

Do you think undersized LBs and missed tackles are part of the reason we struggle at Safety? Are those guys worried too much about stepping up to stop the run and that is why we see them get burned? Or just too slow and not skilled enough at the safety position?

maybe this is why bubba's winning percentage is around 50 something...he's playing chess when all the rest are playing checkers?

if you are the best olb, wr, or qb right now........you play right now........get experience against drake and nau and then go beat boise on the blue turf on national tv

you wanna grow interest in und football beat someone your not supposed to beat

You think they need to expose everything for Drake?

Dale Lennon kept Ryan Chappell under wraps and then surprised UNI with him when we beat them in 2006. It’s not a novel concept under Bubba.

for the last ten years the bizons have said we are only gonna run about 3 plays from 3 formations and you know what they are and i dare you to stop it......and look what they have done.

iirc chappell was battling injuries on and off (hammy?) that year so maybe having him rested and fresh was more of the reason why he didn't play against nw mexico jc the week before northern iowa

From what I saw at fall camp, this 2 deep is about right. Mildly surprised no Kory Tai but not really. Don’t need him. Don’t burn the shirt just yet.

They call it a SECRET Weapon for a reason!!!!!!!

Really liked what I heard about him from camp. I'm sure its just youth vs. a deep receiver room.

Would love to see him burst on the season and make a splash against Boise or one of the SUs. If he is going to be a game changer and truly help us win games, then burning the RS seems fine. If he isn't, then I just hope the coaches are strategic about utilizing his 4.

They'll use the 4 strategically unless major injuries occur. He'll be even better after a year of winter weights and spring ball. He also has a cannon for an arm, if ever needed in a pinch or some trick-eration.
