UND Recruits - 2004/05 Updates

I don't see Vandevelde coming any earlier than 06.  He has the size, but is still developing his game.  I don't think he'll ever put up huge offensive numbers, but he should make a good defensive center.

I agree about VandeVelde. I don't know if he'll ultimately be a center or wing, but I see his "skill set" as similar to someone like Chris Porter. I do think that VandeVelde has improved tremendously in the past year, and he may have a bigger offensive upside that I thought.

I'm more concerned about Stafford leaving for MJ than the pros. I still remember his interview last year where he didn't sound as if school was a big deal for him and he still seemed interested in the MJ option. Hopefully he likes school enough to remove that option.

Lee was probably the best high school defenseman last year as a junior.  He, along with Chorney and Jones, will give the Sioux the top three defensive recruits coming into college hockey.

So assuming that Anderson and Niskanin round out the top five, do any decent players go to non-WCHA schools any more?

Warroad's Oshie Update

Warroad's, T.J. Oshie, has amassed 13 points in the last 2 games vs. Orono and Bemidji. Oshie leds the Warriors w/ 18 points (6G, 12A). His 7-point performance (3G, 4A) outburst vs. Orono, the team that ousted Warroad in the MN State Class A quarter-finals last year, was amazing on Saturday night. The Warrior's defeated the Orono Spartans in Hockeytown, USA, by the score of 8-2. Oshie then turned around last night and dished out 5 assists and sniped a break-away 7 seconds into the 3rd as Warroad beat Bemidji, 10-4.

SSM has updated its stats page. Chorney is 3-16-19 in 31 games. Doesn't really have a ton of meaning for a defenseman.

The team's leading scorers are all on the top line: Toews, Gergen (UMD) and Okposo with 51, 50 and 43 points, respectively. Looks like no one is on a Parise/Crosby scoring pace this year.

After the weekend:

BCHL

Kozek is 2nd place in the league with 1.7 ppg

Duncan is 6th with a 1.7 ppg, but has played less games. His ppg would put him right behind Kozek in 3rd.

Watkins is 18th with a 1.2 ppg.

USHL

Miller had 2 assists on the weekend. Now tied for 4th on his team in scoring. Slowly gaining consistency.

24 points in 7 games is so many. Was he playing really weak teams or is he in all every goal they get?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

W 4- 1 en Osseo 1- 0-0 11-26 Away

W 7- 1 Robbinsdale Armstrong 2- 0-0 11-27 Away

W 10- 2 Eastview 3- 0-0 12- 3 Home

W 8- 2 Orono 4- 0-0 12- 4 Home

W 10- 4 Bemidji 5- 0-0 12- 7 Home

W 6- 2 Hibbing 6- 0-0 12-10 Away

W 11- 1 Greenway 7- 0-0 12-11 Away

Warroad scores a lot of goals, they play a much different game than Moorhead. They do not have the depth Moorhead has, so they need more production out of their top line. Plus Oshie is an offensive machine, it seems like he gets a scoring chance every time he's on the ice (from my limited viewing of him).
