Well I hope you guys are right

I didn’t realize that college presidents positions were so political based

They shouldn't be.  It's unfortunate.

So the game begins....

In reality its easy to identify those potential canidates that are scary bad.

Most people have no clue what would make a good university president.

We want someone vested in North Dakota.

A servant leader. A good communicator. A person with a vision and the ability to share that vision and inspire.

We need someone to make donors feel as part of the family as opposed to ATMs.

Someone who isnt going to use the position to increase personal power and position.

Someone who can with a firm and calm demeanor facilitate difficult changes and make those effected understand the change.

We need someone to be able to work with the bat crap crazy RINOs in the legislature, the Fargo focused governor, and the dysfunctional SBoHE.... not to mention the GF %gobc... and at the same time a faculty listing lefter than a ship sinking port side.

This isnt going to be an easy job.

At the same time it is a good job and we should expect to attract a quality field of candidates.

So you're saying they have the starboard side directionals removed from their vehicles before purchase because they'll never need them?

As an east coast friend used to say, "By the way many drive seems directionals are optional".

Good luck with getting anyone to understand change that doesn’t benefit them.  I just hope we get someone in that has the balls to make change and not cave during the first signal of resistance.

Um, didn't we have that in Kennedy and Schafer? And maybe Kupchella* too?

*He dared stand up to the NCAA!

But they are all gone.  I think yesterday showed what university systems are becoming.  A 9-0 agreement quickly changed to a 5-4 vote due to pushback.  Maybe we have been lucky but change makes me nervous.

So time to ask the question:  We need a person to lead it temporarily, so who gets the gig this time?

Dean Blais

.... but during the interview process he pulls the campus police and bags skates the engineering faculty.

UND not necessarily the ugliest s**t show in higher ed right now.

https://newsok.com/article/5631228/sources-james-l.-gallogly-to-resign-as-ou-president

Makes a 3-year tenure seem positively infinite by comparison.

And OU’s guy was an alum and business executive with apparently no traditional academic credentials.

Rumors are that Boren, being a politician, helped himself and friends to helpings of OU's students among other things.

https://nondoc.com/2019/03/26/ou-grad-alleges-david-boren-tripp-hall-sexual-battery/

The new Prez was an OU law school grad and former exec at a petrochemical company.  He knows how to dig OU out, but not how to deal with the politician end of it.

Boren doesn't want the new Prez around anymore.

I'd say Mr. Gallogly got the job, walked into the shop, saw how sausage is made, and that the place needed gallons of bleach and a blast of sunshine, and decided it would be better to not be associated with that mess when it all hit the presses.

Agreed.

What would it take for people to step back the next time they want to criticize a university president, or the high salary? I suspect that few understand how impossible that job really is, and the toll it exacts on many well-intentioned individuals who sign up.

Even the chancellor feels UND is is the flagship school of ND.  :whistling:

"Our state is less than a million people and this is the flagship (university),” he said, which means UND has ties to the state, region and entire country."
