And they can’t offer scholarships anyway in DI. Maybe and it’s a long shot that the DII men’s teams try to move up to DI. Quote

This article says several more schools are rumored to be moving up in WIH, like Assumption, Stonehill and Southern New Hampshire. All of them are DII and most have DII men’s teams that can’t play for anything. Wouldn’t be surprised if there is a new DI men’s league, as a DII one never made sense. Those schools offer men’s hockey scholarships now and in the past. LIU has now an enormous athletic program that needs men’s hockey after all the duplications of CW Posts programs are cut. https://www.theicegarden.com/2018/9/26/17905916/new-england-womens-hockey-alliance-officially-announces-formation-new-ncaa-womens-hockey-conference Quote

Another caveat could be if Illinois and Oakland start teams. If NMU needs more students enrolled, lax would be a better option as there are more players and not full scholarships. NMU has a dome too. Rifle, alpine and WIH would compete at the DI level though. Quote

SiouxVolley Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 There are Big Ten posters who insist there is no six team B1G rule and six teams doesn’t require a Big Ten championship. In the MIH case, Penn St wanted it, Wisconsin with Alvarez wanted it (hated the playing non B1G WCHA schools as were not worthy of them), and the CCHA B1G schools wanted it, and Delaney and the Big Ten Conference Network wanted it for programming. Minnesota had to accept or be kicked out and lose vast sums annually, or at least that is what they spun to the press. Penn St had a independent team for a couple of years so six teams does not automatically mandate a B1G league. If Illinois, Iowa and Rutgers start M&W hockey, a B1G WIH League is not Inevitable. The Michigan’s have shown no movement to WIH. The B1G Network does not want any part of WIH so the schools can do their own thing. Several Big Ten posters insist that is true as they have had conference bylaws in their possession. Maybe those who don’t agree can take their beefs to them. Ohio St WIH might just like playing Penn St and Syracuse instead of Minnie and Sconnie. Clarkson has won mostly on Toronto talent and Ohio St is closer to Ontario than Minnie and western Canada.
