4evrSIOUX Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Didn't know Nodak supporters were so thin skinned? Why should I vote when I can't stand either option? If I had to vote, I would vote FH. I went to RR and having the same name is just plain stupid IMO. 2 1 Quote
Popular Post CMSioux Posted November 8, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2015 Still can not figure out how Fighting Hawks fit even one of the criteria that was given to the committee to come up with the list - I would like to have someone who was on the committee address that. 4evrSIOUX Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Wow this process sure got us all to rally around a unique name! The enthusiasm is unbelievable. NOT! Nice job committee! Quote

I went to RR and having the same name is just plain stupid IMO.UND is the University of NORTH DAKOTA, not the University of Grand Forks. This is the argument of RRHS graduates that have never left Grand Forks. No other university is called the Roughriders, and it has a ND connection. Supposedly, the new name was supposed to be unique and ND-related, both of which apply to Roughriders. Neither of which apply to the Fighting Hawks. And for those of you who voted FH because of the "Fighting" part, words fail me. 14 1 Quote

Popular Post fargosioux Posted November 8, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2015 A guy that sits by me at the Ralph showed me that proposed Blackhawks logo, and told me that was going to be our new logo when we became the Fighting Hawks. After a while, I finally made him understand that his information was incorrect. I wonder how many people are voting for that name based on that logo. 9 Quote
WiSioux Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 (edited) Fighting Hawks is terrible. It is beyond generic and boring. We could have skipped this entire process if we end up with Hawks as that is what nearly every other team forced to change selected. Might as well be the sheep the way we follow everyone else around. Siouxphan27 Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 (edited) the writing was pretty much on the wall after the first round. Hawks dominated, getting 50% more votes than any other choice. Hawks gained twice the support percentage-wise than either roughriders or nodaks did in this go-round. as ol' Hank would say, It's All Over But the Crying. But to reject the only nickname left on the ballot that even comes close to meeting the original criteria over this GFRR crap is just short-sighted. Like I have said before, judge each name on its own individual merits. Fighting Hawks is unoriginal and is used by dozens of schools in various forms. Roughriders is used by ZERO NCAA schools right now and has some ties to the State of North Dakota. It is a solid choice for the Flagship Institution of the North Dakota University System. We don't play GFRR, so who the heck cares if "they picked it first"?This is about the future of UND and about the future generations that will walk on that campus. That is way more important than not "copying a local high school". 5 Quote

Siouxpride.comEven if any of us were on that committee, they would have found a way to get the consultant's choice to the final. Not for Sundogs, but at least it met some of the criteria. Now it's a matter of seeing the incredibly lame logo that the consultant will approve. Quote

Popular Post BostonSiouxFan Posted November 8, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2015 Wait until the generic, bland Hawk logo that UND is actually going to adopt gets unveiled. That's when the dim bulbs that voted Fighting Hawks based on that logo will realize they were duped. And it will be too late.Listen, vote however you want, that is your right if you are an eligible voter. As an alumnus and someone for whom this University is more than simply a hockey team, it just disappoints me that there appear to be numerous voters who vote Fighting Hawks based on that logo floating around online that will not and cannot ever be used at UND. That and people who like the "Fighting" part of the nickname, because it's, you know, like Fighting Sioux! For these scholars, we apparently could have become the Fighting Dust Bunnies, because, well, you know... 8 Quote

I've never bought into the made-up history purported by the ND Tourism Dept. involving the Roughriders. And it appears i'm not alone in that line of thinking. 4 1 Quote

fight on sioux Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 This is awful... If we become the Fighting Hawks and look back at the set of criteria that was supposed to shape the new nickname, you couldn't match any of them up to this name. I'll support the teams but I'll call them what they are... Fighting Sioux. 4 Quote

UND-FB-FAN Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Didn't know Nodak supporters were so thin skinned? They seem to represent the entitled population who want "this or nothing". I for one have changed by mind according to the beliefs of THE VOTERS. The majority has spoken; thus, I will get on board and move on. Go UND! Quote
