Topics include graduate students transferring up in light of the Vernon Adams situation and the status of the FCS moving forward. Interesting comments in that Fullerton believes the upper FCS teams, which include the BSC teams and the University of North Dakota, will likely be merging with the bottom 5 FBS conferences in the next 4-5 years. Essentially, the way it stands now, I agree with him. Every season the top 10 FCS teams could easily play night in and night out with the likes of the MAC, Sun Belt, etc.

Fullerton knows $ signs when he sees them. It takes $'s to move to FBS. The UND Foundation will have a part to play in this, but that's just a guess on my part. They couldn't care less about where a certain program is at currently. Facilities, academic ranking, endowment are much more important. Can they get good? Herd
How come NDSU trolls are not all over this lambasting it?The thing that Fullerton is talking about here is not FBS, it's a defined tier 2 that is something other than FBS, and something other than the top scholarship tier and the top championship. Don't kid yourself. If you think this makes you right or smarter than everyone else, don't, your not. If you went to 85 scholarships tomorrow and your championship was the the one that Ohio State won last year, you would be going FBS. That is not what Fullofhimself is talking about here. UNDColorado
Isn't he talking about splitting the FBS you have the P5 on one tier and the G5/upper FCS on the other? Yes, Fullerton is talking about the G5...not the P5. Lets be honest here, the G5 has zero chance of winning the national championship. It seems that gap between the G5 and the P5 is growing larger. The top half of FCS and the G5 do look similar and if the funding was increased a bit it would be tough to tell the difference. A shift of some sort will happen and I feel quite comfortable with a forward thinking commish. such as Fullerton.
The Sicatoka
I'd say Doug Fullerton is a lot closer to what's going on behind the scenes than the rest of us. And Fullerton is right: the split, FBS/FCS, is in the wrong spot because, as he says, the "bright line" is between the P5/G5 in FBS. I've believed for quite a while that DI college football will be three levels: the P5 (autonomy) portion of FBS, the rest of FBS (aka the G5) plus the top of FCS; those strugging fiscally (including non-scholarship) in FCS. Herd
The lower G5 and FCS will not be joining any time soon unless a unified scholarship level is set. What Fullerton doesn't understand is that the BSC is in big trouble if they have to increase scholarships, most of them can't. A move to even 70 would be painful for most if not all. You won't be joining the G5 at 63 Doug.

Hawkster
You do know that Fullerton has gone on record saying not everyone in the BSC would move up. My guess would be half. But then, why tear apart a good, solid conference? I'm in favor of combining with the G5 although I don't see anything happening for some time down the road. Way, way too many unknowns yet for everyone, plus we really need to be a much better contender year in and year out before we can make such a move. Let's start making some noise in the playoffs before we talk about moving up.
The Sicatoka
Doug's managing 14 opinions in some way or another (the core 11; Idaho but not FB; Cal Poly, UCDavis FB). In a past interview he talked about how an FCS group and an FBS group all under the Big Sky banner would actually make sense from certain perspectives. Big Sky, MVFC (big if on MVC schools - they are basketball schools first) and CAA are not comparable to the American or Mountain West. They would start near the bottom of the G5 conferences. Plus, ESPN recent financial concerns may not be good for the G5. ESPN lost 3.2 million subscribers last year and that trend is not going to change. The younger generation does not watch cable. I know this because we dropped cable in my house it did not phase my kids at all. It is not what they do... they are on youtube and other media outlets. The Sicatoka
The MWC and the AAC are the top of the G5. However, the distance from the all-sport FCS conferences to the Sun Belt and MAC isn't that far; and Conference USA is not what it used to be (go look at current membership). Honestly, ESPN won't care about anything below the "autonomy" tier. They'll focus on the NFL and the other pro league (the autonomy tier). The second tier will need the second and third tier sports networks (regional and local) for exposure and money.

Not with HD and expanded cable, Satellite, NHL Network, NFL Network, etc. I think I get about 20 some plus sports channels.
