FINAL #2 Edina 6 Bemidji 4. Bemidji scored 2 goals in the last couple minutes to cut it to a 1 goal game but Edina got an empty netter with 2 seconds left to seal the win. Good showing from the Lumberjacks after they got settled down and really started playing their style but by that time it was already 3-0 and it was just too much to come back from against a good Edina team. #3 St. Thomas Academy and Duluth East are up next.

STA 3 Duluth East 2 after 1. STA had 3 real good chances on 3 East breakdowns and scored on all of them to go up 3-0 while East got 2 late goals and really completely controlled the play aside from the breakdowns that led to STA goals.

FINAL Duluth East 6 #3 St. Thomas Academy 5 OT. Love to see the Cadets get sent over to Mariucci.

It's gonna be a long slow walk from the locker rooms at the X to valet parking for those poor STA kids...

When did EGF ditch the red from their jerseys?

Almost no EGF team has red anymore.  Too expensive to get the third color as a trim piece.  Love the home whites, but the new EGF roads that you'll see tomorrow are ugly.

If you look up boys basketball jerseys the whites (road) that EGF has are about as classy as it gets.

Gotta love no private schools left for championship in either class.  Too bad Bemidji couldn't pull it off.

BTW Breck would technically be the smallest school in tourney at bit over 400, but not sure how to count a private that can pick and choose who they want.  EGF is next at 490.  Their opponent tomorrow Mahtomedi has 1143 so Red River size.  For Mafia, Hermantown is at 615.

#5 Eden Prairie 5 #4 Blaine 1 after 2. Eden Prairie has really dominated through 2 holding Blaine to only 8 shots. Casey Mittlestadt(MN) and Michael Graham(UMD) both have 2 goals have been very impressive all game Riley Tufte(UMD) has the lone Blaine goal.

Mahtomedi is another school that can move up any time now. Play a predominantly AA schedule, then sandbag in A come tournament time. Pretty sure that's NOT how the folks who designed the two-class system envisioned things when they drew up the plans.

I know that feeling. Freshman year of high school 5am departure to play pep band for state volleyball at the X. Would get back just as school got done. Repeat for Friday. Good times.

Ouch! Good times though, no doubt!

For those of you with Midcontinent Cable, while channel-surfing last night I found the Minnesota HS tournament games live on MidcoSN Alt Channel 2. That is 322 on the cable system I was on.

EGF and Mahtomedi tied at 1 after 1. Great atmosphere sounds like the upper bowl of the X has already been opened up and a great first period filled with speed, physical play, and end to end action. EGF got a goal from Grant Loven on a 2-on-1 and Mahtomedi scored on their 1st powerplay. Mahtomedi will open up the 2nd with about 4 seconds remaining on a 5-on-3 powerplay, EGF was called for 3 penalties in the 1st while Mahtomedi was not called for any. Big positive for EGF is their top defenseman Trevor Selk is back from injury today and you can see the difference he makes to their group.

EGF putting on a lot of pressure almost midway through the 2nd Bowen just missed the top corner on a 2-on-1, Loven is denied walking down the slot, and EGF had Mahtomedi trapped in their own zone for a good minute and a half.
