jdub27 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 They should probably do the right thing and just give him the bonus instead of trotting him out there on short rest, even if its only for an out or two. He does have an injury history. The goodwill from paying it far outweighs the backlash they'd get from future players and their agents by not paying it. Quote

I'm sure they'd like to, but that could open a can of worms. What would stop other teams from arbitrarily paying additional money to big-time players outside of their contracts? Quote

The Sicatoka Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The easy solution is all the Twins wake up Sunday morning with "bilateral shoulder stiffness". "Phil, you're starting." After one out in the first ... PRAISE JESUS! It's a miracle; the shoulders loosened up! Quote
The Sicatoka Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Remember, this is the Pohlad's we're talking about. The Pohlad's were probably running a fire hose from the roof of Target Center to make it "rain" harder on Target Field. 1 Quote
SiouxScore Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Saw the Twins offered Hughes a chance to pitch an inning out of the bullpen to get the out this weekend but he declined. Quote
Blackheart Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Saw the Twins offered Hughes a chance to pitch an inning out of the bullpen to get the out this weekend but he declined.they should just give it to him...he was their only decent pitcher this year. Quote
82SiouxGuy Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 they should just give it to him...he was their only decent pitcher this year. They can't give it to him. The Collective Bargaining Agreement between the players and the owners doesn't allow giving bonuses that aren't earned. That's why they offered him a chance to earn it. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I still say it'd be fun to see his teammates force him in to pitch (even for just an out). Quote
82SiouxGuy Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I still say it'd be fun to see his teammates force him in to pitch (even for just an out). He told the Twins that his arm is tired. He has never pitched this many innings. He would rather not throw the pitches needed to warm up and get ready to pitch, then go in to get 1 out, just to get the bonus. He doesn't want to risk getting hurt, he wants to be healthy for the off-season so he can prepare for next year. Quote
MafiaMan Posted September 27, 2014 Author Posted September 27, 2014 And Minnesota absolutely pounds Detroit pitching yet AGAIN! If Detroit blows the division title, it has only itself to blame. 11, 2, 8, 4, 6 - the runs scored by the Twins in each of the last 5 games against the Tigers. 31 runs. Ouch. Detroit's totals? 4, 4, 4, 3, 8 - 23 runs total. Who's got the better pitching staff and bullpen? Quote

SWSiouxMN Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Gardy has been fired from the twins today. Quote
MafiaMan Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Gardy has been fired from the twins today. Pretty much expected - not his fault that the Twins held onto players too long and got little, if anything, in return on a trade (Morneau, Willingham) and sign guys to crippling contracts (Mauer)... Steinbach will be a rumored candidate for this job and Arizona as well. Quote
Snake Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 It would be nice to see them bring in an outside perspective, but the front-runner is probably Molitor. Quote
MafiaMan Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Steinbach will be a rumored candidate for this job and Arizona as well. The fix is in if Jake Mauer is named manager. Quote
SiouxScore Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Gardy has been fired from the twins today. Wouldn't mind seeing them go outside the organization for the next manager but I wouldn't be surprised if they go with Molitor, Steinbach, or Mientkiewicz either. Quote
