Correct. This is political in origin; hence, Rick Berg taking over as NDSU interim president is no coincidence here in terms of timing. 

UND and their political alliances (and strategic panel in terms of hockey vs everything else) need to now react accordingly.

All the top schools left for the pac-12. Mountain West is 4th in the G6 at best. The poaching funds (if the get them) will only last a couple years. Moving to that level of football is like flushing money down a toilet.

Fargo is a front runner town, we'll see how excited the fan base is to head to the Idaho Bowl in late December.

Tulane and JMU have shown that the gulf between P4 and the rest is wide and only getting wider. Just dont see what is compelling about going from FCS to FBS at this point.

Here’s my hope. 
 

UND - Don’t be petty. Use this as fuel to motivate, you need to be so much better and have so much more $. 
 

State of ND (Funding) - Have a backbone. Obviously, the state shouldn’t put an additional dime in funding for this move. 100% privately. Also, no more forgiveness like they’ve received in the past when they haven’t been able to handle cuts. Would also like to see some push back on the new funding model they are trying to dictate. 
 

Overall: Tough situation for UND, but far from the worst scenario (IMO). FB only invite > All Sports. Them going alone >>>> going with SDSU.

Moving out of FCS needs to be part of the 5 year plan. What I’d like to see is UND / SDSU / USD kind of team up. Try to move all sports together.

This is Denver’s last year. St. Thomas will  follow soon. They have made it known the Summit is not their long term home. They want and will be in the Big East soon.

This seems like common sense, but I don’t have faith this will be the case. We’re about to see with the new funding model. NDSU writes the rules and everyone smiles and goes along with it.

So for 365 days a year we tell NDSU to go eff themselves for the most part then when it is looking like they are going to move up we want them to be our big brother and don't leave us behind.  Let them do what they want who cares put on our big boy pants and let's figure out what is best for us right now.
