NewUndFan Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I have no inside knowledge but I think them moving to the mountain west is more likely then not. Their coach didnt just stay there without something going on. Like it or not they have a national brand that could help the mountain west.  Quote

Parlayed that into more money and to wait out a better opportunity. Quote

Do you really believe that people from coast to coast and border to border actively follow NDSU FB? If that was the case, they'd have a national television contract like Notre Dame. Fargo and the media conglomerate there may believe that they are "center of the known universe", but it's still a city in flyover country that doesn't add much value to those all important TV contracts. And television rules CFB right now. I'll believe this move to the MWC when I see it. 1 Quote

The national sports media doesn't give much attention or respect to anything below the P4 FBS level. It's always been like that. And moving to FBS means the best you could hope for is either 1) a low ranked bowl game nobody cares about or 2) a spot in the CFP where you'd get boat raced by the likes of Oregon or Ole Miss. Unless the G6 gets its own playoff, I don't think being a G6 FBS team is worth all the time, money and effort. Quote

With what’s happened today with Tulane and JMU they’ll be lucky if the playoff structure doesn’t change to 4 P4 champs + 8 Quote
GeauxSioux Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I live in the South where football is a religion. When I tell people down here that I went to UND they ask me if that is that D2 school that's really good in football. So yes, they have heard that there is a school in North Dakota that is good at football. They can't tell you which school it is, nor can they tell you what division in which they play. 1 2 Quote

I think personally they are in a bad situation. Their fans are bored with winning and attendance has declined. They can keep winning national championships or move up and a be a small fish. Neither is great.  We can only hope to have that problem someday at UND.  1 Quote
AJS Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Echoing some things others have posted. UND needs to position themselves for the move. Are you excited by the G6 is absolutely debatable, but what cannot happen is SDSU, Montana, Montana State go too. UND needs to tether themselves to those schools.   NDSU has no choice. IMO, there’s no worse time in college football history to be in the G6 for a school like NDSU. Missouri State for example, they are having a great time going 9-3 and playing on a Bowl game. Bowl games are becoming irrelevant, NDSU going 10-2 gets them nothing. In a lot of ways they are in a lose / lose situation (given fanbase expectations).  What I’m hoping for will give NDSU short term shot in the arm, but imo will be worse long term. MW invite with Davis & Tarelton. MW invite w/ SDSU & Montanas would be worse case. MW with no rivals and a lot of schools with zero brand recognition to average fan is risky. Lose early and you’re playing for nothing the rest of the year. 2 Quote
AJS Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Pipe dream for me would be then getting with other Dakota / Montana schools, either staying in FCS or try to move to say Conf USA together (northern / western branch). With the cost of everything. Regional will be important. Rivals are important. Quote

Another pipe dream would be Dakota schools, Montana and Idaho schools form their own conference in all sports.  Throw in Omaha and Northern Colorado if we need 10. I know that wont happen but would be a great conference.  1 Quote
Shawn-O Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Is it a safe assumption the people like Armacost and Cook actually speak to each other on such matters, unlike two decades ago? Quote
