NoiseInsideMyHead Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 You would never call the Dodgers the Dods or the Braves the Bras, so why something as lame as Cavs? Yuck. But you have to admit, the possibilities for alternate uniforms for the Atlanta Bras are endless. As are the cheer team routines. Quote
MafiaMan Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 But you have to admit, the possibilities for alternate uniforms for the Atlanta Bras are endless. As are the cheer team routines. OK, maybe Braves and Bras is a bad example...or maybe it's not? Quote
dmksioux Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I absolutely detest nicknames where the name is shortened to something that isn't even a word. For example, some of the worst jerseys of recent memory include the 1980's "CAVS" jerseys for Cleveland as well as the BOLTS jerseys that Tampa Bay wore and the SENS jerseys of the Ottawa Senators. Sens? Really? You would never call the Dodgers the Dods or the Braves the Bras, so why something as lame as Cavs? Yuck. So what about Fighting Sioux to just Sioux??? ;-) Quote
darell1976 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 So what about Fighting Sioux to just Sioux??? ;-) Actually Sioux came first while Fighting was added later. Quote
dmksioux Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Actually Sioux came first while Fighting was added later. Huh, didn't know that. Point still stands that people shortening our (former) name to the Sioux versus Fighting Sioux. Quote
darell1976 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Huh, didn't know that. Point still stands that people shortening our (former) name to the Sioux versus Fighting Sioux. I do like Fighting Sioux but would never frown on someone just saying Sioux. Quote
MafiaMan Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Huh, didn't know that. Point still stands that people shortening our (former) name to the Sioux versus Fighting Sioux. Apples to oranges. Sioux to Sio would be apples to apples. Quote
dmksioux Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Apples to oranges. Sioux to Sio would be apples to apples. I know it's not the same, thus the ;-) in my initial post... Quote
Siouxperfan777 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Cavalry is my top choice as well. Substitute the Brien designed Sioux head for a profile of Teddy Roosevelt facing to the left an you are all set! Throw in a couple cris crossing swords below it and you got yourself a new logo!! ^^^THIS!!^^^^ - Great Idea....I think the silhouette of the retired Ben Brien Sioux logo could easily be changed from a Native American to the Face of Teddy Roosevelt with his Cavalry hat on. Head tipped down with a deep stare looking forward! Would be a great way to honor ND history and the University of North Dakota! Quote
Hayduke Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I had a bad case of "screaming weasel" one time. Fighting Squirrels! http://reorder-check...g-squirrels.jpg You're getting closer to accepting the "Screaming Weasels!" Just a few more steps, and you're there! Quote
The Sicatoka Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 You're getting closer to accepting the "Screaming Weasels!" Just a few more steps, and you're there! And like I said before, I had a case of "screamin' weasel" once and don't recommend it. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Cavalry would have to be kept "generic" enough that any warrior on horseback (see: statue in front of REA) fits. Quote

runaroundsioux Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Nothing to do with a new logo, but was in Bismarck today and saw a Native American gentleman wearing a sweatshirt with a large Fighting Sioux logo on the front and back, had never seen one like that, pretty cool. Saw another NA wearing a Washington Redskins jacket withe a big Redskins logo on the back. Neither seemed too offended to me. Curious that. 2 Quote

The offended ones are the non-Native Americans because they have nothing else to bitch about. 3 Quote
zonadub Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 a year to go... time to take control of the destiny of the name, rather than allow the PC crowd to come up with a name like Blizzard, Flames or Spirit. Quote
MafiaMan Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Inside this week's Sports Illustrated, a writer sending in a letter to the editor commented that Jim Harbaugh needs to find a new person to admire other than Winston Churchill. Seems to me that too many folks with that type of attitude are usually the first ones jumping on nickname-selection committees. Cue the final nickname choices of Vegetarian Polar Bears, Glittery Unicorns, and Sparkling Rainbows. Quote
