ericpnelson Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 A snarling canine logo with school color eyes ... where've I seen that ... hmmm ... http://www.collegefinancialaidguide.com/pictures/University%20of%20South%20Dakota/logo.JPG Just the head as the logo. Wolf is a bigger and better animal. Quote
NYSioux Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Just the head as the logo. Wolf is a bigger and better animal. Wolves > Coyotes and do dine on Bison Quote
PhillySioux Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I wonder if Dire Wolves ever roamed this area before extinction? "UND Football... Winter is Coming." 2 Quote
DamStrait Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 But there is no UND Wolves! There are worse names than this. I think it's a respectable nickname, it will take time to get use to it but it will grow. I would prefer to go with something totally unique - and connected to the state. Corps of Discovery - the official name of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which spent more time in what would become North Dakota than any other state. Kind of a mouthful, but can be shortened to ' The Corps'. Logo possibilities abound. An aside - the expedition was largely responsible for establishing the reputation of ferocity for the Sioux Indians. Quote

Most interesting suggestion I've seen so far... Quote

I love that you're thinking outside the box, but that one would take some getting used to; for me personally, anyways. From a students point of view, it sounds more like a campus committee more than a nickname. On the other hand, we could go by the Discos Quote
Siouxphan27 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Here we go, Corp of Discovery, here we go! Clap clap. Gimme a C! Gimme an O! .... Two timeouts later, What's that spell?! 1 Quote
DamStrait Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 As I say "Kind of a mouthful, but can be shortened to ' The Corps'" - which would work much better in chants, etc. Quote

Siouxphan27 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The Corpse? Change the cheer to, "What's that Smell?" Quote

DamStrait Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The Corpse? I'd advise against saying that to a marine. Quote
Snake Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The Corpse? Well... that's what Obama would call us! Quote
MafiaMan Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) I'd advise against saying that to a marine. Why not? Our President does. EDIT: Snake beat me to it. Edited September 16, 2014 by MafiaMan 1 Quote

ericpnelson Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Just think...We could build a new on-campus football stadium and call it "The Den".... Exactly, Wolves has by far the best branding potential, and it's BA. Numerous google searches support that statement. Quote
mksioux Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Wolves is unoriginal, uninspiring, and infinitely better than whatever nickname this committee ends up actually choosing. Seriously, I'm probably biased because I live in the Twin Cities, but it's too close to Minnesota's NBA team for my liking. i could live with being the same as NC State and Nevada, but the Timberwolves connection is too close for me. UNDBIZ Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Just think...We could build a new on-campus football stadium and call it "The Den".... Oh the stadium will be named Gfhockey Stadium. The student section can be called the den though..... Quote
