  1. Yeah that's it. Still open but teetering on the brink. Used to be pretty good years ago but they've had a lot of building issues with parts of the roof falling in. Now I see the owner has the building and lot for sale. God I miss Marilyn's old Health Department Restaurant Report Card from the Heraldo! Remember that? Where you found out where the Elite (like GFHockey:-) should NOT meet to eat.
  2. Should have urged her to apply but you were too busy stuffing your face at the FarEast (also known as PoorFeast) Last year they were growing mung beans beside their garbage dumpster out back just fyi. No kidding...still better than the dumpster fire China Garden has become. As dear leader Trumpy would say - SAD!:-(
  3. Not sure about that at ChinoLatino but GF actually has a Punjabi Indian Restaurant now (only took 125 years) called House of Punjab. Authentic and really good. If anyone does that they do.
  4. Samosas! The ground beef ones are good but try the chicken ones too - they're AMAZING! Entree suggestion - The Korean Chicken with Gojuchang sauce. It's like the Red Peppers White Sauce but with actual FLAVOR (sorry Sioux fans:-))
  5. Chino Latino is a MUCH better marketing name that Steers. Cooler - Hipper - more in line with their actual food offerings. Steers sounds like a cattle auction house:-) And YES the food is very good! Elias Deans' story is even better - check it out on his Facebook. PS - the folks who've taken over his old location (Mt. Everest - Taste of the Himalaya's) have their own game. Try the Chili Momo's as an app and go from there! You'll like it Geaux - you're adventurous! Great to see more than just another lame burger place open up in GF!
  6. It's a work in progress - UND signed the contract so late Midco had basically a month to hire new talent. Taylor landed her job and had her first game the next weekend - did pretty well considering the situation! The Section 309 set was totally new last weekend and yes - there are issues they're working on. (The PA and music is INSANELY loud in the arena and they're right by the band) A little patience on the fan end would be helpful...
  7. Never had a problem with Far East - their problem is their building is falling on itself (roof problems) and now I see that lot is for sale. Enjoy it while you can GFH - they do have great food when they're cooking it up. Best Chinese Buffet in GF even if it is in the scary scary "Northend" lol
  8. No further questions your honor! Chik-fil-a IS the new Red Pepper. SO POPULAR but no will admit it....Frankly mediocre Gotta say it - bland unless you're totally drunk - but so many are it's a paradox. Go figure!
  9. There is no "quiet" location inside the Ralph and pretty sure Monique would punch you in the mouth if you called her a "blonde chick" to her face...I be laughing my ass off when yours hit the floor. NEXT!
  10. UND Contract requirement - not a Midco decision. Apparently they're in Section 309 though!
  11. You know - Gam Wong is still cooking Shangri-La entrees for Ground Round a couple days a week. Great for the memories. He also does his Phoenix Chicken for you daring Scandavian foodies not scared to find a jalapeno in your food. Just like you remembered. Bland in overall taste yet oddly comforting for old school Shangri-La fans. Give it a shot Fufeng belongs in ANOTHER thread - not here! Get back on topic or the mods can come in and shut this topic down.
  12. Just stick with the buffet and don't have anything off the Mongolian Grill. A couple years ago saw an employee come out and stir the piles of raw meat and vegetables with no gloves going from chicken to beef to noodles and whatever. Salmonella anyone? Done and DONE! I could also tell you tales of being in their kitchen many years ago but lets not go there. All I can say is "tubs of grey chicken on the floor" and enough said! Far East used to be a lot better but their building is for sale and it's falling in on itself (plus they grew some kind of vegetables in the rear of the building last year next to the garbage dumpsters. - sure there's a health code violation there) but whatever - never made me sick. GF Classic China Garden has gone to crap - both food and service wise - what happened to the proliferation of Chinese Buffets?? We have no real go-to in GF - that sucks!
  13. Curious if he had the "impish/evil" quality of his dad - there was something there both on the ice and in the face. JasonB was a guy you HATED if he was on the opposing team but LOVED if he was on yours. Thankfully he was on ours! Hope that trait transferred also!
  14. Curious is he is? I know his son is an eye doctor in Fargo - wondered if he was his kid.
  15. Didn't take any pics but did pop in over the weekend - it's QUITE a difference if you remember the old (post-flood, NOT the original) Whiteys layout. First off - you walk in the door off DeMers and it's a brighter white "marketplace" cafe feel. The old horseshoe bar has been converted to a bakery/short order walk-up counter. Pick up some bread or a couple cookies to go or place a lunch order. There's a casual sitting area and a place to buy spices, her cookbook, and other kitchen items on the mall-side. If you want to hang around there's a more regular cafe area with tables on the dining room side on DeMers. The old formal dining area on the riverwalk-side has also been brightened with spaced out small tables and table service with waiters and waitresses to attend your every baloney sandwich need! Yes the menu is small right now with sandwiches and salads but you can feel the vibe she's trying to create and it's actually pretty cool. We bought a couple cookies and bars to take home ($16) so don't forget your wallet but they were amazingly delicious - no kidding! The signage outside TOTALLY pays homage to the old/new Whiteys signage with art deco style letters. It's in its early stages but I think it's going to be a great attraction for downtown GF/EGF especially with the State Park next door. Far better than the crappy hamburger hut that bailed on GF at the first opportunity. At least Molly has connections here - has embraced the midwest and has found value in our community AND has a venue to broadcast that to a national audience on a weekly basis. We are incredibly lucky to have her here and right back at ya Molly! I'll always support someone like that.
  16. Is Dave Norman still even alive? Not that i care....
  17. Molly Yeh's restaurant opening this weekend with an Open House on Saturday. Signage pays homage to the old Whitey's font (and heritage) This will be a huge add to the EGF Restaurant scene! MUCH BETTER that when Dave Norman took over the (relocated but still historic) WHITEYS and crushed it into the ground like a stale PallMall with his horrible menu and pricing. What an a-hole! Molly will do MUCH BETTER - check it out!
  18. saw a TV spot that said they're offering 20% off (don't quote me) memberships right now while they're just opening...that might not be totally right but just say "I saw it on TV":-)
  19. I apologize! I'm pretty sure I'm the first person on the internet who thought he knew better than someone else on any subject - you're right! I should trust these business geniuses and wait for ALL these vacant commercial properties to promptly fill up with the exorbitant rents they're asking because they had the incredible business acumen (or just plain cash) to put up strip malls everywhere no one wants to be in. Epic at least has original concepts and has had success - DC, not so much. That's not an "expert" opinion - that's the truth.
  20. New indoor place NOW OPEN too called PlayIT - next to Aldi - a couple indoor BB courts, batting cages, golf sims, billiard tables, ping-pong and other table games...a nice compliment to Northern Air with different options. Future plans include a restaurant in-house too. https://www.playit.center/
  21. Gotta love the internet - it's like running into a wall over and over again - JUST LIKE MOST OF YOU DID WHEN YOU WERE KIDS! Oh memories....
  22. Drove by the old Steers restaurant on South Washington tonight and it's been taken over by a restaurant called "Taste of Himalayas" (basically Indian but with some different stuff) and the parking lot was FULL! By full I mean 8-10 cars but way more than I ever saw at Steers. Anyone try it yet? House of Punjab is doing great business - Steers/aka/CHINO LATINO is doing Indian/Asian fusion food that is amazing - GLAD to see GF tastes are changing to more than just another Burger/Grinder joint. PS - That being said we picked up Parrots Cay takeout tonight and it was FANTASTIC! We ordered takeout because we thought we'd never get a table on a friday night but there actually several tables open at 6:30 - suprising
  23. That was a covid thing instituted by the Ralph - no reporters on ice level. She will do a pre-game show and ice level reports during the live game.
  24. Also known as La Casa NorthDakota-stra - Me Familia Sioux Style!
  25. Anchor for Varsity Sports Live and great at that. This was a new position because of new contract stipulations. Welcome aboard Taylor!
