Let me translate...Gam Wong was one of the original owners of Shangra-La. After they closed the original restaurant (1st Chinese place in GF) he opened Phoenix Wok and Grill in a strip mall on Columbia with his son Brandon. After a few years Brandon decided banking was a better career option (still does) and Phoenix closed. Gam loved to cook since it was his whole life so he hooked up with Southtown Pourhouse and did the traditional dishes there for a few years. Despite being a popular food draw to a crappy country bar for a few years they kicked him to the curb. Gam still wanted to cook so Ground Round brought him in several years ago and he's been cooking there a few days a week (check facebook for schedule) ever since! He does a limited menu like the old Shangra-La Combo dinner, fried rice and sometimes a specialty entree like his Phoenix Chicken or Walnut Shrimp. Not wild or crazy but for fans of 80's GF it's chinese comfort food and bless his heart for still doing it although he has to be in his 70's at least! The combo meal WILL take you back and don't forget to ask for Hot Mustard - it will clear your nostrils for weeks. Totally worth it for old fans of GF cuisine!

New sign over the old Tea and Crepe location downtown - KING POKE Bowls - cool! A little Hawaiian cuisine would be a nice addition to downtown and work great in that small space.

Not at Jamestown but understand you can't fly west from GF - only to MPLS. Devils Lake goes to Denver and the short stop is Jamestown but this flight has been VERY SUCCESSFUL for DL and Jamestown which was the ultimate goal of EAS! Lots of GF residents fly out of DL for this flight - just what is it was designed to do.

Just FYI - Jamestown's main runway has been closed for 6 weeks for a reconstruction project from early May to mid June and commercial traffic is prohibited during this time so that probably explains some of it. There will need to be some....uhhh..."retraining" if Runnings plans to retain the current employees from the current Home of Lobotomy staff.

Go check out Seoul Kitchen in the Grand Cities Mall (formerly Moe's Kitchen) - transformed it into a stylish Asian restaurant. Bit of a wait but the food was good and authentic. Staff very nice and attentive - the Gojuchang wings are super sticky and delicous. Great addition in a hidden location. The croffles are a good dessert but they need to give you a knife!

On the UP side for the "Metro" - Spray Paint sales at Ace Hardware on University are THROUGH THE ROOF!!

9 days later and his supporters are still 2K away from making the original goal of 10K - it's only moved like $500 the last couple weeks - really? Not rocket science...Sioux Falls is a giant (largely) untapped media market. Imagine if Fargo didn't have NDSU and Bismarck and GF had the "big" colleges in the state. How much could they pull out of Fargo for ad $$? Answer: NOT ENOUGH! UND Hockey is Midco's cash cow for ad revenue. Highest rates and highest demand. FB and other sports at all schools don't even come close. Midco realizes the future of actually making money off local sports depends on cultivating Augie into a D1 Hockey school to sell the SF Market and that means bringing the entire CCHA league into the mix just to secure Augie as the anchor. FloSports was an epic disaster. I subscribed for a UND game at Bemidji and I would have rather had my grandma streaming the game on her phone from the cheap seats. It was hideous. Midco just wants to be able to OFFER the games to Sioux Falls businesses. By firing all their talent it means they don't care about the end product. It only means they will be able to sell it on a short term basis. If it's more than 2 cameras and a hack announcer it will be better that what they had. The cautionary note is UND's production level will suffer on many levels from the cuts as they bring up 1 program from nothing and bring down their premiere program to save them some money.

Hugo's was a loyal LOCAL sponsor for years and years and has been here for a bajillion! They finally got that handle back but that was an embarrassing deal for UND athletics to say the least. Now they're going "all in" with Sanford - almost literally in the shadow of Altru's new hospital? hhmmmm....

and IN YOUR FACE Altru - interesting - competition is never bad but this all but seals the deal Sanford is moving into GF in a big big way! Announcement of a new hospital coming soon?;-)?
