  1. Jacob Odom headed to D2-power Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Best of luck to him.
  2. There isn't reallly a reason for the NCHC to be a willing participant in that and only have 3 schools currently in the Summit doesn't give the SL any leverage, especialy when the ones in the league are the ones you are trying to prevent leaving. And I think you'll have a hard time with that rule when the conference would need as many affiliates as it does. The MVFC doesn't have a whole lot of reason either, but the SL schools do have a bit more leverage being that it is currently 5/4/1 in the Summit/MVFC/Horizon. More or less, the difference in what you're saying and what I'm saying is which teams you are trying to protect from losing because other than UND there is no one that has both hockey and football (other than UST in the Pioneer). To me, football is a more realisitc option than hockey and it keeps the core group of the Dakota schools together and you have the ability to start enticing the 4 MVC schools while their conference is in a bit of transition and starting to look different than it previously did. Still a long shot but I think a reasonable path to explore.
  3. Is there anyone more critical than you? And trust me, it isn't because you have some sort of superior football knowledge or have higer expectations than anyone else, it is because you have the never-ending need to constantly sh*t all over everything, over and over again, non-stop.
  4. If you're going to add a sport in the hope for stability, football is a much bigger priority. Prevents the "safety" of universities being able to go FBS and have a separate home for their Olympic sports plus there are more football sponsoring schools than hockey sponsoring. Even if there was a Summit hockey, it would be much more likely to allow an associate member in that than it would in football, particularly since it is going to be required for almost half the current league from Day 1 (CC, WMU, Miami, Duluth SCSU). I don't see the major benefit from trying to roll the NCHC under the Summit umbrella like I would see with football.
  5. If those were the only two highlights you took out of this whole season, your whole attitude about the program makes a lot more sense now.
  6. Very possible, but we have already grabbed one or two recruits like this that we would probably assume are out of UND's league. Seems like Mallory has been able to sell to these kids the chance to be the top dog and team leader that you might not get at P5 school. Will be interesting to keep an eye on how things go.
  7. Or......being the commissioner of an all-sports conference gives someone both higher pay and a lot more future career opportunities. Would the NCHC falling under the Summit umbrella actually be an overall net positive for them? Sure you can reduce administrative costs and your safety net is much broader, but they are already profitable and have a rainy day fund built up. Now those funds are used instead to help non-revenue sports.
  8. UND and every other team in the country are constantly looking for post players. At the mid-major level, you aren't going to get someone coming in who's polished. Based on where the other Summit teams are rated and how they have been performing, I think you're selling them a bit short. The league looks to be pretty down this year outside of 1-2 teams.
  9. It also doesn't say EGF down the front of it Maybe East Side would be more apt?
  10. There were at least a handful of players that missed games for reasons other than injuries, they just weren't discussed because they were not as noticeable.
  11. Agree with this. He's a proven commodity, the other two still have a long way to go before they are at that point. Despite some negative, I doubt the staff is looking at it as net positive no matter how you spin it. And who knows if the door is actually closed. No public comments from him unlike many others in the portal. That being said, whatever happens, happens and you move on with those that want to be here.
  12. Agreed. You can believe whatever you want, but it doesn't make it true.
  13. Pretty solid advice since there is a lot going on behind the scenes and in this particular case, the player has not indicated anything publicly. Maybe some realize the grass isn't greener and are welcomed back. Maybe they aren't.
  14. And now on the other side of the equation, an offer out to an OL from MN who was playing at Albilene Christian. Had quite a few offers coming out of Iowa Western CC.
  15. Poor wording on my part. Last fall at Fresno was his first head coaching job since interviewing for the head job at UND in 2013/14. He had not been a head coach since leaving Sioux Falls in 2009. While it obviously worked out for him, it was just a comment that he ended up continuing to climb as a coordinator instead of taking a head coaching job somewhere and going that route.
  16. It is interesting he never got his first head coaching job until last year. EDIT: Since interviewing for the UND job in 2013. He left Sioux Falls in 2009. Just keep moving up the ranks as an OC/QB coach.
  17. Like I said, it can get better. Those are two things that most would agree on over the course of the season. But there are probably half a dozen things that happen each game that plenty of people would disagree on that isn't so black and white. For example, clock management on the final drive of the season, when they still had plenty of time to score and make sure SDSU didn't have any time left.
  18. Every single fan base (including those 70 miles south of UND) complain about play calling and time managment. It is a constant at every level of football. If anyone thinks it will magically be "fixed" they are going to be disappointed because it isn't always black and white. This isn't saying it can't get "better" but what that means is 100% subjective. As for penalties, while there was a spurt where there were some untimely penalties, UND was one of the least penalized teams in the FCS this year (top 10 in fewest penalties and penalty yards per game) and easily the least penalized team during conference play. Again, still room to get "better" but they were actually pretty good as a whole this year in penalties.

    FBS games

Sure it does. Riley gets a pay raise and a longer leash at USC plus keeps the dream alive with a easy path to the CFP. If he moves with OU to the SEC and immediately gets exposed, he won't have a job for long. The B12 isn't the SEC and I don't see a ton of seasons where Oklahoma is putting up 10 to 12 win seasons consistently.
  20. Nah. Pretty decent point. How About We Keep Sioux Fighting "anything" Methed out bird with head dress people thought would be the logo. Don't think people who accepted the reality of moving on used any of those reasons when voting on the new nickname.
  21. Ran out of gas. 4th game in 6 days appears to have shown up against a quality team. Perspective on the team and what they can do this year is quite a bit different than it was 9 days ago. Still a long way to go and the pieces need to click, but they have the chance to make some noise this year.
  22. Can't tell if serious or not. Do you think he just assumed he (the guy running a 15-17 yard route on 2nd and 17nd) was just a decoy? According to you, QB1 can't get past his first read and I can guarantee that the WR's know the progression of a play, so not sure how that correlates.
  23. Seriously. There is an argument to be made for taking a timeout there, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the clock. They ran a play that would have done exactly what it needed to if either a)the QB led the WR half a step less or b)the WR comes out of his break a little harder, both of which, timeout or no timeout, can happen any play. Time. Was. Not. An. Issue.
  24. You see decisions that are questioned across every single level of football, including the NFL. It has been going on since the beginning of time and won't stop. Coaches operate on more than just "the numbers" and they may or may not be correct when taking the human element into account For example, twice in the 4th quarter last week, Pittsburgh was down by 14 and scored a TD to be down by 8, pending an extra try attempt. Analytics say that you should go for 2 in that situation, as it increases your odds of winning by ~2%. Yet the Steelers (and plenty of other teams) ignore that. Interestingly enough, your chart actually agrees with Pittsburgh despite the expected increase in chances of winning. Meaning all charts aren't necessarily created equal.
