Possible fallout from Jayden Denegal from UMichigan transferring in with 2 years of eligibility left? Not sure what their depth chart looks like with all the movement going on. Like seeing upgrades in competition at key spots! One more WR and a few on the D-side to keep it going!
-
Happily wrong on this one if it is accurate and he's the guy. Heard a few other names floated, but like I said, new HC has a good idea on how he would be for a fit.

Pepperidge Farms remembers...

Probably depends on how they feel about KOC's next reclamation project (Daniel Jones) and how McCarthy's rehab is coming along. It would be a tough call to let him walk but that money could go a really long way in shoring up some other holes in the roster.
-
Maybe, but where's he going to go? Portal is going to be flooded. Maybe he thinks his best chance to see the field is to stay here?
-
While that's partially true, NDSU's enrollment has been dropping for a decade and UND's has been climbing.

Eric Schmidt named head coach of North Dakota football

So it is greater than what it was. And they continue to push it higher. Do you know where UND ranked in assistant pool under Bubba? Third. Do you know what it is now? Second. And my point was the pool is the same regardless of what happens. If there isn't a designated DC, then there is more money available to spread among the other position coaches and possibly the ability to attract better candidates than what there would be if there was a designated DC. -

Assistant salary pool is what it is regardless of who has what titles. -

What if the salary pool was the same regardless for the same number of coaches, but they were about to spread it out a bit more to get better position coaches....? -

Interesting idea... Would explain why the postings are what they are. -
It is still used by some of the top teams in the FBS and more than a handful of NFL teams. What base defense you run doesn't really matter if you don't have the players to run it and/or they aren't fundamentally sound. UND hasn't been able to consistently get the athletes they need to run it.

Given the 4-2-5 scheme, it is possible some of those players may have the ability to switch to safety, edge or even a heavy nickel. But you are right, 6 dedicated LB's is a big number.
-
More or less, they picked up the phone and asked. Got a 2-1 deal. Win for everyone (minus Alabama if they get stuck here tonight....)
-
Agreed that there are places for improvement (significantly in some spots), but I would be interested to see how guys look after a year in a new S&C program along with a new staff with new ideas. How much of it was X's and O's and how much is Jimmy and Joes? With a complete change in defensive scheme, there will definitely be a need to remake some parts of that side of the roster.
-
I don't. But I don't believe they have interest in the SDSU transfer. Probably fair to say the new HC has a good idea on whether he would be a good fit or not.
-
Not that it matters but to further distract from this conversation: I know that wasn't the case the first few years when the REA opened. I also know they worked on a few different versions of what was fair, maybe they tried at some point but I don't recall it.

Improved on his #2 throw on UND's top-10 list. Not bad for a freshman.

OC probably got some say on who he wanted to keep around to help with the offense. Kostich isn't a surprise, despite some opinions, he's a good ST coordinator and is well liked by players, parents and high school coaches, plus has a ton of connections. Adding nickelbacks to his plate will take that off of Stepps, who will just handle CB's. Still need a safeties coach in the secondary, plus Edge, LB's and DL. -
Anyone remember when people said they'd trade what Hakstol was doing for a national championship with some "down years" mixed in like what Sandelin did at Duluth?

No. They wouldn't have to go through interviews and hiring process on internal candidates. We'll see how many he keeps but I'd be surprised if it was 8. -
Bump. Great time to donate. You can do an annual contribution and pay for 11 months and get the 12th month free. All the funds are then eligible for the match, which expires on Sunday. Can also choose where to put it, between the general fund or earmark it for up to 2 sports.

Guessing part of it is who he's targeting, if they team they are affiliated with is still playing and how important are their remaining games. -
Actually makes a ton of sense as a fit but don't quite get the no football part.

Agreed there are some very nice balls in there. But I'd be concerned if his highlight film, including some in half pads, was filled with bad throws. Would also love to see Simon and Jerry's practice film cut-ups for an equal comparison. Tom Miller was most of the practices and reported on what he saw and ended up not being real surprised by the decision. That's the kind of comparison that actually carries some weight. -
Schmidt knows what an elite Edge rusher should looks like and that is a definite position of need. Good spot to pick up a few higher level guys buried on depth charts.
